Ride my... age-elevation x100?
Riding your age is big here. But I'm thinking about doing something different.
On my birthday in October I'll be (gawd, I can hardly type this) 54.
I'm thinking about trying to climb 5400 feet, any distance that works, sometime around then.
It would be a huge challenge for me.
I'd also have to buy (beg or borrow) an altimeter I guess.
Whatdaya think?

There are some Nutters about. Great idea though if you can find enough hills or a mountain to do it in. So 5400 ft. To give you an idea- Ventoux gave me a climb of around 5,000ft. That was easy as it was one climb. Hope you have a Big mountain cos I don't fancy lots of smaller hills.
Edit Just had a thought- My hills are 200 metres above sea level and They start at sea level. So 600 ft into 5400 is only 9 times up to the summit. Seeing as the one I am thinking of is 15%- 9 repeats up that may take a bit of time- but is doable. So set the date and I'll Join you. Virtually....... But No way will I do a metre more for my 60th.-Unless you do.

Great idea! I rode a tad over 7,000 ft. last Sat. and I'm only 57, so I rode a few bonus feet (Glendora Mountain Road from Glendora, CA to Baldy Village, then to the Ski lifts and back to Glendora).
But then I'm training for the Mt. Tam double century, and that has over 14,000 ft. of climbing (spread over 200 miles). . . so I'll let you know if I finish that (Aug. 04, 2007) within the time limit (17 Hr.).

Routeslip.com will give you an elevation profile and total elevation for a route. There are thousands (not exaggerating) of routes in California. You might check there to see if you can find a route with the elevation you need or at least a start on mapping your own route.
