Long Threads Won't Load

Just wondering if it's me, my computer, or the forums causing those really long threads to not load.

I get it randomly. A thread will partially load, say 3/4 of a page, and then the page will hang. I hit refresh or eventually just leave the thread. Next time it happens, I'll post the thread & time it happened in here.

For me it is basically any thread with more than about 2,000 posts. I just thought it was my computer.
BTW I'm using an Intel Duo-Core iMac and running Firefox or occasionly Safari.

Edit: If I click on a very large thread, I don't get anything but a white screen and no posts at all show up.

Currently 4 Mbps cable modem, Previously a 2 Mbps wireless modem and at work i think it is just an ASDL modem. I haven't been able to view the pages at home or at work where I use a windows laptop.

It happened to me when the thread display mode is hybrid. When the mode is linear it works fine.

This came up initially a few months ago, but I thought it had been fixed.

As I recall, it went something like this:

In counting the number of posts that a thread has in order to determine the number of pages to display, the forum software is counting the soft-deleted posts. Regular users can't see soft-deleted posts, so the number of pages is incorrect, moreso the longer a thread is.

Everyone is seeing all the posts, it just looks like there's more. It started happening after the forum software was upgraded once, I think.
