Rear axle thread in frame

Hello and thank you for your help,

In the picture below the axle is 12X135, when screwing the axle into place it’s not threaded directly to the frame but to the black aluminum circle.

How do the manufacture connects this black circle to the aluminum frame ? I don’t see any screws holding it in place. Is it glued ? or some mechanical solution ?

Do you think I can take that out for painting and refit ?

Any info will be great,

Thanks,

Tom

No, because in 2002, the spammers didn't swarm the site that much. You should be able to upload pictures to your gallery.

Some of the through axle nuts are held in by circlips of some kind. What brand of bike is it?

one of their frames has this blurb: "The rear axle retains the expanding wedge design that eliminates the chance of loosening during riding, which screws into an updated tapered insert for a secure and reliable fit. "

It almost sounds like the insert is a press fit

I guess you are right they press it in.. so not a good idea to mess with it.
