Nishiki Serial Number Database

My bikes became Vintage
I didn't buy the book. I was considering it but didn't want to spend that kind of money unless I could browse the book, to see whether I was going to get anything out of it (besides Scott's lovely photos). It's sounds like you got limited value out of it, so I doubt I'd experience very many revelations. Thank-you for putting my mind at rest.

Your Colorado was built by Giant of Taiwan during weeks 27-28 of 1987. However, based on the decal style, yellow to blue faded paint scheme and presence of the chainstay mounted U-brake it is a 1988 model. It was 4th in Nishiki's line of ATB models and had an MSRP of $390 US. The frame is an unspecified plain gauge CrMo tubeset and the component group was primarily Shimano Exage Mountain, though the hubs were a Taiwanese cost concession. Your bicycle appears to be completely OEM with the exception of the Avocet saddle and possibly some indiscernible consumables.

My crystal ball is conjuring up an elevated chainstay model with Shimano 500LX and two tone fade paint scheme but the image is weak, grainy and in B&W. Maybe it's because you're on the opposite coast. Hopefully, somebody else's Barbarian isn't cutting in. How about some photos?

Ask and ye shall receive
Trying to date it by the serial A89112038.
It's definitey a Barbarian (says so on the frame), that I picked up on a whim for $80 off CL. I have developed a scratch to make a SS mtb that needs scratching. I've been eye balling up two other 26rs I have for the task but was reticent about messing with them when I spied this Niskiki. Interesting back story on the frame design so... I bought it. Turns out to have a mix of 500lx and replacement drive train parts which is ok because they are all going bye bye anyway. I'll start a project thread for it soon and link/tag it here when I do.
Can you tell, from the serial, the year it was made? My brain wants to say 89 but that was the first year of production and this looks a little more refined so I'm leaning more towards 91.

In 1990, the Barbarian was 6th in a lineup of 9 ATB models. Please note that while the frame has a Tange MTB decal, it only applies to the three main tubes. The stays are hi-tensile steel.

Thanks T Mar.
I must admit, I am not a fan of the day glo paint schemes of the day and am pretty sure it will fall victim of this upcoming make over.

Last month I just bought a Nishiki bike having serial number stated T4597. The previous owner said that it is Nishiki '80. Could somebody here decode the serial number? I couldn't attach the picts because just joined the forum, but I set the bike pict as my profile picture.

So I read the initial post about decoding Nishiki serial numbers, but without going through all 70+ pages, I just wanted to check if there was any more info about decoding pre-1975 numbers. What I have:
Nishiki Olympic, serial KS 241861.
Unfortunately, the bike has been stripped down to the frame a while ago, so I can't say for certain what the components were. The frame is silver, with the "Nishiki Olympic" decal on the downtube. Fork looks to be all chromed, but with the upper legs and crown painted to match the frame.
I remember it having a cottered crank, a bolt-on derailleur hanger in the dropout, and it has an odd-sized seatpost I haven't put calipers on yet.
Anyone have info on an exact year? How about tubing? It sounds straight-gauge, presumably 1020?

Hi,
I found 2 weeks ago Nishiki Touring Master frame and fork.
Serial number (engraved on the seat tube):
WN 10679 K
Fitted on the frame AXIS Italy BB (1,37x24 standart) for Campagnolo 6-notch tool.
Any additional info about it is much appreciated.

Master is a European market model name and the serial number format is the Danish format, indicating that it was imported by Nordisk Cykelfabrik in1973, 1994 or 2015. I don't believe that Nishiki was being marketed in Europe as early as 1973 and 2015 is quite recent. Pending pictures, 1994 would be my leading candidate.

Curious if you're able to help me find the year and manufacturer of my bike, as I'm looking to find the specs so that I can order some new parts for the frame. Serial number is HD00826240

Is this a nishiki?
I'm very impressed by the longevity and comprehensive coverage of this thread, came upon it whilst searching to identify a frame number on something that claimed to be a Bob Jackson, but is not. It's been butchered about a bit, I can't add photos I'm afraid, but the serial number is KS01110. Components were a mix of all sorts of good bad and ugly so won't help with the year I don't think. It's probably going for scrap but I'd like to know what I'm throwing out!

Searching for parts
Hi there,
Was hoping for some help identifying my Nishiki bike, the Blazer has serial number HD00826240 and is a green/blue/teal color.
I picked this bike up cheap and am hoping to bring it back to life, but want to be sure I’m getting the right parts. Currently, I’m having trouble identifying the year based on the parts that are on it, so thinking the previous owner may have made some updates.
At the moment, the rims say “Araya 26x150 Japan” and tires are Kenda 26 x 1.5 with the following numbers listed: “K-800-03, K6302, 183022, 1220, TW8822.” Derailleur is Suntour XL and crankset says Sakae XCT. Gear shifters are Suntour X-press Power Control Accushift Plus 7S.
Know this may be outside the range of serial numbers you’re able to identify, but would appreciate any help you can provide so we can make this bike beautiful again!
Thanks.

I just don't know anything about it... Bought it recently for $100 cad it's pretty used and I just wanna know if it's worth restoring....

Welcome to the forums. The model name of your Nishiki is Alouette. Shimano 100GS was only manufactured for the 1991 and 1992 model years. The serial number format could be reverse engineered several ways but I'm leaning towards 1992. The tubing is plain gauge CrMo only for the three main tubes with the stays and forks being hi-tensile steel. Given the era and level, it's likely Tange's non-named, seamed, tubing that replaced Tange #5 . This is an entry level hybrid. Original price would have been ~$350 - $400 CDN. Personally, I wouldn't restore but if you're in larger metropolitan area, even inexpensive bicycles like these are fetching above average prices these days. Selective photo assist...

On the nose. It's a '86 run. The hubs are Suntour but are of the cup and cone bearings type. That's fine with me as I prefer these as opposed to sealed bearings, particularly these, that have a nicely fitting seal that's easy to pop on and off. I like cleaning out a set of wheels. It gives me something to do. (my wife does puzzles). It's an activity that connects one to ones bike and is about half as much fun as riding,... which is still pretty darn high.
