Can't prove it (computer battery died) but I rode about 22 miles today as a Bike Commuter.

Did the morning half of the commute, 2/3 on BART, the other 1/3 through beautiful SF. Slight mist in the morning, looks beautiful now for the impending evening commute!

Get this, I'm less than 2 miles from home on a downhill that is posted 30 MPH and I'm doing 33.37 MPH. Ride safe, the act of getting exercise and hurt you in a bad way.
It's amazing how many times I see people driving cars with bike racks on top that act like idiots around bikers. You would really expect/hope they would know better/what it feels like to be out there!

102 miles commuting to work this week. Woot!

I rode my hybrid with the SPD/platform pedals to work today just in case I encountered nasty holiday traffic in the afternoon. (I have trouble clipping and unclipping in stop-and-go traffic on hills). I lucked out and had a smooth ride all the way home.

I didn't ride today. My wife wanted to go to the movies after work so we saw "Thor" (pretty entertaining!) I already put in 40 miles in the last couple of days and will probably do 25 tomorrow.

30 miles today. Ran the ITT course that will be used tomorrow for the California/Nevada Time Trial Championships at Lake Los Angeles in the desert. 23 miles doing the TT and seven riding back to the car. The wind was brutal...utterly brutal! Still, recorded my best time by just under three minutes. I remembered to not start out so fast. Still not competitive with last year's times; but I've been using my road bike. Have a TT bike coming, but will be another week or so before it arrives on the UPS truck. Rode with a swollen ankle. Rolled it last Sunday during a tennis match. Turn the ankle about four days earlier stepping off a false floor, so it was weak to begin with. Doesn't hurt, so I rode.

Today’s ride:
Left the house at 7:00 AM this morning and met Jim and Dick at the trail head. We took the Seminole Wekiva Trail to Panera Bread for breakfast as usual. From there we went north through Heathrow and out to Deer Path. We were just about at the turning point when I spotted 4 deer off to my right. From there we turned around and headed back to Sylvan Lake Road then west to the northern trail head for another break. On the return trip we made another stop at Panera Bread to refill out water bottles then headed for home. The temp was already in the mid 80s when we got back. If the weather holds it looks like I will have a 1,000 mile month which would exceed last month’s record of 965 miles.

Statistics for: 05/28/2011
Miles today: 60+
Mileage this month May: 915+
Mileage this year: 3885+ (55.5 % of my 2011 goal)
Over/under riding days 2011 vs. 2010: +7
Over/under miles 2011 vs. 2010: +1060 miles
Average miles per ride this year: 40+
Average miles per ride this month: 45.7+
Miles needed to hit my 2011 goal of 7,000: 3114, and an 8,500 mile year (would be my best ever) is not out of reach.

Tomorrow will be a shorter bike ride day….

31.2 leisurely miles (14.3 avge) to get miles in the legs and saddle time in the butt, in prep for the TdC in two weeks. I'm planning to ride my age at the track.

Only 14 agonizing miles on the Felt B2 TT bike this morning. I can not shake this cold! It's now in my chest, and exertion causes my lungs to burn, heart rate to go way up, and my legs to turn to lead. I hope this cold goes away soon!

13 mile ride this evening. The Secteur was at the LBS most of the day for servicing. It developed a clunking noise that seemed to come from the right-side crank and or BB. It's been getting progressively worse, and I was at my wit's end. Turns out the non-drive side cup of the BB was loose, causing a clunking noise when the drive-side crank passed through the 5 o'clock position. The manager discovered the problem as he was about to replace the BB. I got soaked during the last two miles, but there's no more clunking when I pedal! Planning for a longer ride tomorrow. It should be dry, but hot. Hope I don't wilt!

53 miles on the tandem today in what turned out to be very windy conditions. Fortunately, the winds were primarily of the cross variety. It actually started to rain when we got home. It's late May in California and has absolutely no business raining.

The annual Memorial Day Weekend All Club ride. 63 miles in very pleasant weather. Maybe 200-300 riders to start out, but the ride has 3 different distance options and of course, people go at different paces, so by the end of the ride I was with just two other riders. Averaged 19.1 MPH - a nice improvement from last year, which was 17.5 MPH on the identical course.

BikeWNC: I did 36 miles on the Parkway as a warmup for MoM as well. I just tried to take it easy and not burn the legs up much. Luckily the stretch I rode south from Rocky Knob wasn't very hilly.

(Yes I'm up at 3:00am because I can't sleep before the ride starts...)

Yesterday I drove up to Auburn to ride the local roads with dauphin97. 55.3 miles, 3356', cool & overcast, and lovely scenery in the Sierra foothills -- I don't ride up here often enough. I'll be back.

Today a metric with my Big Sur Marathon relay team -- legs are already protesting but I'm not listening.

Have you considered taking a few days off ?

If I'm not feeling well, or just fatigued from overwork (especially when Nordic skiing),
I kick back and relax for a few days .... works wonders for both the body and the mind.

It's not as if a few days off are going to have a negative training effect ... quite the contrary

Get well soon ! ... Tom

My idea of a down day .... Independence Pass ( 12,095ft /3687m) is definately NOT a down day on a bicycle !

Thank you, Tom. Yes - I am taking today off. I've got a 50 mile ride with friends tomorrow.

Enjoy the weekend, everyone!

After about 20 years off the bike, started back about a month ago, up to 8 miles per ride this last week. Today's ride was easier, planning on going about 12 per ride this coming week. Running around 14 miles per hour for the whole ride just wheeling in the small ring and mid gear on the rear

got in 12 yesterday with 10 to 25mph headwinds going out. Winds increased to 15 to 30 for the return trip -- yeah, baby!

attempted to get another 20+ this morning but a flat and leaky spare tube nixed that (didn't feel like patching on the raod) but got 9 into a 15mph wind before calling the wife out on rescue duty. that all puts me at 392 miles for the year so far -- well on my way to a meager goal of 1500 for the year.

Today’s ride:
Left the house at 7:00 AM this morning and rode solo to Panera Bread for my breakfast as usual. From there we went north on International Parkway to SR 46A and then west to Orange Ave then north to Deer Path. From I turned around and headed back to Sylvan Lake Road then west to the northern trail head for another break. The county had just put the top coat of black top on a new half mile extension to the trail so I rode it out and back. On the return trip I ran into one of my riding friends so I turned around and rode with him back to the trail head then headed for home. The temp was already in the mid 80s when I got back. If the weather holds it looks like I will have a 1,000 mile month which would exceed last month’s record of 965 miles. I only need 37 miles.

Statistics for: 05/29/2011
Miles today: 48+
Mileage this month May: 963+
Mileage this year: 3933+ (56 % of my 2011 goal)
Over/under riding days 2011 vs. 2010: +7
Over/under miles 2011 vs. 2010: +1079 miles
Average miles per ride this year: 40+
Average miles per ride this month: 45.8+
Miles needed to hit my 2011 goal of 7,000: 3066, and an 8,500 mile year (would be my best ever) is not out of reach.

Tomorrow will be at least a 35 mile ride to get me to 1,000 miles this month….

Here are some photos of the new tunnel construction going under Lake Mary Blvd (construction is about 50% complete), and the trail extension at the north end trail head. This extension makes the trail 14 miles from end to end and is one of the better trails in Florida. IMO

104.7 miles and 9100+ ft of climbing at the Mountains of Misery Century outside Blacksburg, Va. Beautiful ride, but cruel finish. It got quite hot late in the ride too.
