Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Cannondale - ControlTech?!?

Noticed the whole Cannondale line is fitted with the ControlTech stem. What happened to the big fugly carbon stem that was on the higher end '07s? It was sure an ugly thing but had a good reputation. Why'd they change? Helped tie in that huge head tube too.

Now it just looks - off.

What is the deal with the controltech seatpost cut-out? What do they say it does?

By the way, my CAAD9 came with Cannondale stem and seatpost... so I am curious about this one...

It increases your max wattage from 900 to 3500 watts.

The reason they switched is it was difficult to get a good fit with a stem that was the same, except for length. All stems were basically flat. They came up with a fit kit to take System Six to a "normal" setup with normal spacers, etc. It was a big deal to make the System Six stems with varying rises...simpler to change the setup.

It makes more sense if you know how to set up a bike properly.

To the CAAD9 guy...Control Tech stuff is on the nicer bikes. The 9 is now the entry road frame for Cannondale.

I've gotten a lot of good feedback on the seatposts.

I am switching to a Super Six from a System Six...I have a Deda Newton stem on the System that I am switching to the Super. It looks fine. But I could give a crapola how it looks. I only care about performance. And I love the stiff front end on those bikes.

As i recall from the system six write up's, the "giant" stem was made by control tech. one of the few things they outsourced.

I would imagine that Trek is going to have the same issue with their new big fugly stems too.

I always thought that the stems were proportional to the extreme size of the headtube. Complimentary
in my opinion.

Me too. Would probably look better when the stem is slammed onto the headset with no skinny stem showing.

So the question of the day, are the control tech stems as good as the old stems? Better?

That does not look like a ControlTech stem on the P caddy.

Control Tech was cool in the nineties though, the post looks pretty elegant I must admit.
