Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Recommend a saddle bag...

without a velcro strap. I'm tired of snagging my bibs on velcro. Yes I know I can use my jersey pockets, but I dont like alot of stuff in there.

I've simply cut shorter the velcro strap on my Specialized bag, and now it ends kind of tucked in and is never in the way.

I have the same problem with seat bags. I'd like to find something as narrow as possible that can just be attached to the saddle rails and hold a tube and tire levers. Until then, I rely on a Camelbak. Suggestions?

Actually the bag I have now has a tab that covers the velcro.....the bibs snagged on the tab.....great design.

The straps on my Trek saddle bag are really long but the Velcro section is very short. So if you pull the bag up good and tight you can just barley attach it.

I've been using a Topeak bag that has a quick release that bolts to the seat rails and uses a velcro strap around the seat post. Just push the tab, pull and remove.

Get the trek quick connect/disconnect one. It has an additional velcro strap, but doesn't need it.

cannondale speedpods QR (stands for quick release) i think they're new this year. They don't work with some specialized saddles though.

That's the small one?!? I guess it's fine for a weekend trip, but what do you use when you're only going out for a couple hours?

Topeak Aero Wedge have one in Medium and it seems to be the perfect size. It also has a zipper that you can open or close and it makes it a little larger if you happen to have some extra stuff at times.

Arundel Dual saddle bag...just placed an order so don't have it yet. I just ruffed up some new bibs from rubbing the side of my current bag so something narrow with no post strap was what I was looking for. They make a larger tubular version as well. Wish it had some reflective trim, but nothings perfect.

I have a Velo Orange Baguette bad. It's great, and can be used as a seatbag or as a handlebar bag. Perfect for shorter rides. Acorn makes a bag that attaches to the seat rails using a toe strap. No need to think about anything else [Unless you like Brooks or Carradice]

A clip-in ICS bag from Fizik.

Of course, that means that you'll have to like using Fizik saddles, too...

That Acorn bag looks perfect with that Brooks; something I'll have to keep in mind.

Perfect! I just placed an order with Sage Cycles for one. I remember hearing about this saddle bag last year but never found them in stock anywhere.

Thanks,

Scott

Yea I know it's massive. I use the same bag for the couple of hour rides as well. It's great for carry snacks and whatnot. I could care less about the extra weight. Besides the extra weight will help me train better on a hill

I've got a smallish Jannd bag with a QR similar to the C'Dale one above, but the bag is more conventional looking. Fits a multi tool, tube, levers and some small bungees perfect, and the QR is a perfect solution for multiple bikes.

Sorry; no pics

I think that these Topeak bags look rather good, https://www.topeak.com/products/detail/21 although where I am they are rather expensive for what they are.

how about no bag? i fit everything i need in my back pockets even on centuries. roll a tube up with some cash folded into it. rubber band it and slide a co2 cartridge, tire lever, photo copy of id and insurance card, and a patch kit. remove the trigger top to a co2 pump and throw that in your pocket as well. that will all go in one pocket with room. you have two more pockets for bars or gels, cell phone, and another water bottle. ride like that for a week or two and you wont even notice its there. and your bike feels lighter without the weight there.

anything you cants fit into your back pockets on a ride, you dont need.
