Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Personally, I like my Sora/Tiagra setup. I think it is fine and have had no problems with it, albeit I have less than a couple hundred miles on them because I just got the bike a month or two ago and it is not my daily rider.

Still, it is a great bike. I definitely enjoyed/loved it while I had it
Nah, only the pedals are 105 (added separately of course). It seems the shifting all works pretty well, the brakes are kind of weak but I'm kind of slow so.....

Oh, oops I misread. I got confused looking at the shifters and thought that you had 105 shifters, hehe. I have the 105 pedals too

2009 Specialized Allez Sport Double Compact, 105 group all around, Specialized Armadillos tires, replaced the cheap stock pedals with some traditional platform ones, leather handlebar wrap, leather seat saddle bag, Brooks B-17 Champion saddle in honey color. Configured for longer rides with traditional old school looks and comfort.

My 2010 52cm Steel Allez. Just a tad over 23lbs. 52/38 11-28 8 speed. I plan on using this on some of the double centuries for 2010, it should stand out in the crowd of carbon.

Here's mine: 2008 Allez Triple, 49cm
Photo was taken on Glendora Mountain Road in Southern California

Modifications:
1) Changed RD and FD from Tiagra/Sora to 105/105.
2) New front wheel: Mavic Aksium Race (original Alex R550 was stolen).
3) Shimano SPD pedals.
4) Flipped the stem and removed some spacers (still need to cut the fork).
5) Changed brake pads to Kool Stop Salmon.
6) Added stuff like Cateye Astrale 8 computer, lights/blinkies.

The bike serves as daily commuter and weekend bike.

Here's my 2010 Allez Sport. It's completely stock. I've ridden about 40 miles now and I can't wait for the winter to be over.

Looks pretty! I had the same one, just black/red paint job instead. Two things: I'd get clipless pedals/shoes, remove the reflectors unless you really need them, and change the brake pads to Kool Stops. Is a great starter road bike

Here is the last picture I took of my 2007 Allez Comp. I was hit by a car (rear ended) October 2009. Although there appears not to be much damage other than bent bars and a broken derailleur, the left side chain stay had frame damage.

I turned it in to the other parties' insurance company. In return, I will be purchasing a 2010 Allez Comp and already have an extensive upgrade list ordered.

ooo sounds good! I wanted to ask though, maybe you might know - is there a particular reason why Specialized removed the Zertz inserts from the E5 frame ? I mean, I understand if their reason was to make it more like the Tarmac and thus take it out, and that the Secteur is new this year and has them, but last year they didn't have it.

You know... I haven't really looked into it much. I have spoken with Specialized and they pretty much mentioned what you said; wanting to make the Allez more like the Tarmac and putting the Zertz on the Secteur, making it similar to the Roubaix.

Well I understand that. It's just that, as I said, I don't understand why for the particular time frame that I was looking to get my Allez, they didn't have the Secteur, so there was no aluminum version of the Roubaix. I don't know... I guess maybe I wish that back then Specialized would have released the Secteur and the Allez at the same time. Technicalities, I guess.

Allez

I purchased my Allez on a budget in april 09. So far I have thoroughly enjoyed my road cycle, it has been a good entry level steed. I have yet to outgrow the bike, reffering to my abilities.

Ally and carbon don't rust. Bust pay close attention to the all the hardware and derailleurs as they will rust. Obviously wipe dry the chain and lubricate everytime.

1993 Allez Pro w/ full Shimano 600 STi

I want to go 10 speed (maybe SRAM) and get a carbon fork

(cross-chaining just for photo-op, gotta be in the big ring!)

1992 Specialized Allez. Carbon tubes. Aluminium lugs and fork. Pretty much stock less pedals seat post and saddle. I bought it new and was my primary road bike for 16 years. It serves as my back-up and trainer bike now.

Couple more upgrades since the last pic. Put my Serfas Stinger Comp Pro Saddle on it, CF look cages, My blackburn 2.0 cyclometer, topeak medium saddle bag, and more properly adjusted.

My Specialized Allez Double got me into road biking at 11 years old. Sadly, I sold it to fund the new bike....

The LBS said the factory-spec wheels were bad, so I got some "upgraded" OpenPros.... Anyone know what the stock ones were in 2007?

It had a mix of Sora and Tiagra components. I think it had Sora shifters and RD and a Tiagra FD

Here are some pictures from the sale:

Here is my 2005 sport. It has been upgraded slightly with a lot of 105 and new rims and such.....
I paid $400 in used but like new shape and have about $600 in it total.

sorry for the backwards pic..... I didn't know the proper protocall when I took it.
