So, is it passable? I'd be coming from the north. I see what these guys did but that doesn't mean they didn't make a better effort to close it off afterwards. I guess I'll be reporting back if I try it next weekend.

I went by the other day all breaks in the fences have been repaired and you can't get on it.
Hopefully this means they will be starting up to finish it.
The black top goes about 3/4 of the way up. then the two small spot that need paving and then concert base the rest of the way up is done.
It's SCT type wide.
This will be so nice when open not having to care if it rain the day before

I'm actually beginning to worry about the weather. I did a 35 mile ride today, started at around 9, and by the time I got back into Brooklyn I was starting to roast. It is supposed to be around 90 on Sunday. I don't do well in the heat and humidity.

Alas when it finally happens I'm a linear sesquicentury away!
But I'll always remember that last August 2019 pre-dawn "superman" days before the paving closure when the (fortunately relatively dry) mud grabbed my wheel for the last time. For all its former challenges, the Putnam Trail is forever the gateway to the route that made me a distance cyclist - my first 50, and my first painfully sore metric, my first absurdly slow Century late the next summer, the more reasonable one the summer after that... in the end pretty much everything that mattered.
Someday I'll be back for an appointment with the Put, and if I can work out the logistics, the Maybrook too.

Yes it open and it's nice, no more mud baths or dealing with the streets of Yonkers.

Yea, it was nice. I didn't mind the old trail though, it was one of the few in NYC that was unpaved,

Not quite as nice as before, but its far more useful than having to be concerned whether its reasonably dry or not. I would definitely be against paving the OCA, but it is nice to finally see this paved since it is such an important gateway trail.
The trail was narrower than I thought it would be. They would have to have cut down a lot more trees to make it wider. In the past the city indicated they would make a separate trail for pedestrians, but no chance of that now. I went on a weekday, so it wasn't that crowed.

Ok was back on the trail today after a day of heavy rain, and glad to report all was good. I was a little worried because it didn't look like they raised the road any and wondered if there would be any washouts. Went to VC Macy park and back about 24 miles

I used to do a "quasi loop" from VE Macy Park, pick up the OCA at Tibbets to the Major Deegan where I'd re-enter VCP and take the Old Putnam Trail and the SCT to VE Macy Park. Not much of a loop, but it provided a little variety.
