1972 Rudge 3 Speed

I inherited this black beauty when my uncle passed around fifteen years back. Well kept and a great looker. I replaced the saddle due to the original being dry rotted. The tires were also rotted and I went with white walls. Added a Brooks under saddle bag which is currently on my work bench with the original tire pump. Changed the gear hub oil and ride on sunny days off. Sturmy Archer hub #7 is lightly stamped but after closer inspection it's a '72. I'm thinking about selling and would love your reaction on pricing. Enjoy some UK 3 speed bike porn on your Friday the 13th!

Beautiful bike.

3 speeds are a bit of a tough sell in Iowa so it may take a while before you find the right buyer. There is (or was) a seller in Des Moines who used to fix up 3 speeds to sell. The bikes he sold were beautiful and he put a lot of work into them. I don't remember what he asked but I think he was getting $100-$125 per bike.

I think you can sell this bike for $150-$200 locally but it might take a while. The bike could command more from the right buyer so you could start higher and adjust the price as needed.

I think Rudge is one of the more desirable 3 speeds. I picked up this Robin Hood locally; it is absolutely pristine and it was on the low end of what I suggested:

Thanks for the response. I would hope I could get more $ but if that is a true range I will probably keep the Trusty Steed. Nice Hood!

I wouldn't sell. It's a beautiful bike with a story. Iowa is a great place to buy bikes; not so great for selling them. If you have a higher price, just put on CL and facebook. Someone might pay it. There is no real market value to a pristine bike like that from '72 since there are so few of them out there.

Nice town cruiser. Keep it and maybe pass it along some day in the future. Who knows, someday these bikes will get more appreciation.

I would say keep it also. While great basic bikes English 3 speeds don't get a lot in moost markets $200 is about top of the market right now. There are actually a lot of them around in great condition and the market is somewhat limited. In most major markets you can find several nice examples on CL in the $200-400 range that just aren't selling
