How dependent are you on your cycle computer? (mounting question also)
I am waiting for my new Cateye wireless to arrive, and really miss the info while I'm out on a ride... I didn't realize how much I rely on comparing results to make a ride seem complete, especially with a different bike with drastically different gearing and frame weight.
(I know, I should have just picked one up at the LBS where I got the bike, but internet pricing is just too good to pass up, not to mention the greater selection available... the local shop didn't carry the model I wanted).
So what's your preferred mounting location? I used to have mine on the bars, to the right of the stem, but there is a nice, flat area on my Giant's stem that seems to beg for placement...

I like having mine, but I rarely look at it. I'm curious how much climbing I did over the course of a ride, and that can be very difficult to estimate! I really like having an odometer - knowing how many miles I've put on my bike in general, how many I got out of a tire, stuff like that. But I'd be fine if the screen were blanked out most of the time, so long as it was recording data.

i have mine on the stem, but i don't care if i have it or not. I only use it to make sure im following the guidline of my ride (a recovery ride, a low cadence day, a 3x20 day or a jra for a long time day)

Mine is on the stem, I only care about it on long rides or fast rides. I may have it on for commutes or shorter rides, but I'm usually not recording and don't really look at it much.

I've placed mine on the handle bars ( no imagination ) I zero it out at the start of a ride, and look at it at the end of the ride, so that I am able to log the trip.

I'm hooked on mine (basic cateye wireless), use it to keep my pace up and to log miles. So much so that if I want to go out and just enjoy the ride I tape over the display! BTW it's on the stem

mine broke and i replaced it but never mounted it and I couldn't be happier. I'm probably slower as a result, and I have no idea how far I go every week. anybody wanna buy a cateye double wireless? New in box, never opened.

Almost every ride and on the stem.
I mostly look at cadence, speed, and day time. I look at heading when I'm not sure where I'm going. I look at other stuff like maxes, averages, and HR later although sometimes I check my distance and average speed during the ride.

I use mine every ride. I just enjoy the instant data and like to read it all after the ride. It also helps me push when needed since I ride alone most of the time. I am 100% pleased I have one.

It depends on what I'm doing on the bike.
For serious training purposes (a majority of the year), I want to see my metrics. Especially for interval work. I absolutely hate riding without my computer on those.
WHen it's not race season, and I'm enjoying the weather and company more, I'll omit the computer. But I do find myself regretting it more often than not - sometimes you have a great day or a horrible day, and you just want to see the objective data on how horrible that day actually was. I've both impressed myself and totally disappointed myself after getting the objective data.
On my outdoor rides, since I have no PT, a key metric I use is % time spent in zone 3-zone4 (hard to very hard) HR. If I'm out there for 5 hours, but do less than 1 hr of time in those zones, it's not a hard ride. Alternately, if I go out for 90mins and done most of it in those zones, that was a hammerfest. It gets hard to tell when you're on those long 4+ hr rides - you often lose sense of how hard you're hammering, and the GPS + HRM keeps it honest.

Stem on the road bike and on a Profile Design Universal Aerobar Computer Mount on the TT bike. No point in having a power meter without the head unit and were it not for knowing my limits and having my 705 to tell me what I'm doing I'd blow up on every hill or 2/3 of the way in a TT. GL

Riding without if just out for a leisure ride. For training I would miss my hrm more than any speed data. Power would be nice.

Over time, I noticed that I didn't care where it was mounted, as long as it was the same place on each bike. Currently, it is computer on the left and heart rate monitor on the right. I find myself looking at the HRM more often than the comp.

Garmin 705 on the stem. Every single ride. I don't really look at it much unless I'm using it for navigation. Sometime I use it to check the current time and how much time I have until sunset. On my regular loops I don't look at it during a ride but I use it for data. I'm not a racer. I never will be. But I like comparing rides. I like logging mileage. I don't need it to enjoy riding, but I believe it motivates me more.

On the stem, and I use the cadence and HRM ten times as much as speed. I have to watch both to keep myself in a decent range.
