BIG DAY! Update on Rad's Tete.

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

BIG DAY! Update on Rad's Tete.

I admire your patience.

I would've exploded by now.

Without a deadline of any sort, I'd think it's likely he just keep pushing it off and pushing it off.
I see the bike every couple of weeks if not more frequently. It is 90% complete and awaiting final detail. Calendars, schedules and deadlines are useless - no less than 10 promised completion deadlines have fallen by the wayside in the past 2 years.

It did after the 6 month mark. But honestly, my options are very limited.

-I can demand my deposit back and take the frame. Maybe take him to small claims court. But getting the cash out of him would likely take a court action and then I would still need to get somebody else to start over with it. No reputable painter would want to touch this frame in it's unfinished state - it's a concept piece.

-I can threaten to not pay the balance. But we've already agreed that due to the delays, I'm not paying another cent beyond the deposit.

-I could tear him a new arsehole on the forums. While satisfying, I think I'll just continue to try to be fair and report the facts as best as possible. Besides, I've found that if I just tee up the story, a lot of you guys will do the ripping.

-I can continue to be patient and hope he gets it done. In the meantime, I'll work on other projects.

That's good to hear. My impression had been that at the most you had been calling and not gotten any results. Your constant checking on it is probably the best way to go. Your timing is probably good to; go too much, and it might irritate him. He's taken a long time, but you still want him to 'take his time' and not rush his actual work, or have him do an intentionally crappy job. That last scenario is probalby not likely anyways, because the end result reflects on his work which might affect future business.

He may be taking a long time with this, but he seems like a good enough guy. Especially in light of the fact that he's basically doing it pro bono now. Your restraint in tearing into him is also probably a good idea. Again, you don't want to go pissing the guy off when he's still got your baby.

Keep up the good work, I guess. Keep us updated, to the extent that the situation changes. God speed.

I've been amused that so many other posters appear to be more upset about this whole thing than you are.

In 1,000,000 years, some future genetically enhanced version of a human being who has been thoroughly schooled in 21st Century archaeology will dig up the fossilized remains of a carbon/Ti artifact which will be the pride of the latest museum in a shining city gently hovering over the waters of the Pacific Ocean. A city called New Portland.

The scientists will wonder what these "55/Rad" symbols mean. Symbols which so beautifully adorn the artifact in all its glory. The scientists will wonder what this odd looking machine was used for. For no record exists to explain its function, and no human seems to be able to use it, since it does not have any form of Type-4 civilzation power source.

It will simply be a useless, yet gracefully elegant artifact, forever to please the 6 senses of the advanced human mind.

After years of study and countless hours of telepathic Quantum thought, no human will be able to fully discern the complete purpose of this machine. After an entire society exhausts all known resources to study this machine, the only conclusion they can come to in the effort to explain its existance, a final report was issued by all Humans and Quantum AI sources. It simply stated the following....

Final Analysis Report concerning "55/Rad" artifact.

By: Institute for Multi-Universal Scientific studies.

"After all known sources of our near omnipotent technical abilities have been utilized to explain the function of this work of artistic mechanical expression, we can come to only one conclusion....

It has never been finished."

I know you all have an agreement that you don't have to pay anymore, but I would be trying the opposite tact. "What will it take for you to finish? If you finish by x-date, I will give $____ and will never disclose your name.

Remember the definition of insanity - Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

I would be flippin' crazy. Your a good man.

Believe me, I've tried. I know it's an often misused phrase but at this point, it's not about the money.

The only thing I haven't tried is legal action and normally, I'm not that kind of person. But it may be my last resort.

Can I have the name and the address of this famous painter? I just want to make sure that nobody of my friends get involved with his business.

Bummer...I'd never have lasted 2 years with that painter of yours.

In other news I have almost 1,000 miles on my LeMond since building it up in March.

So at least you are getting a discount. Well that is not too bad then from a bargain hunting standpoint. LOL except for the fact you have some expensive parts tied up.

At least it is 90% done, but in reality I think the last 10% is the hardest to wait for.

Hey 55/rad...in all seriousness, I truly admire your outlook on this. My girlfriend is constantly commenting on how she admires my patience. I even told her about you....she laughed. I am like you, in that I believe that coming out and ripping the guy at this point would accomplish nothing, nor would just taking your bike elsewhere. The fact that he is willing to complete the job for only your deposit shows me his good faith. This world could use more guys like you. Lord knows BF could.

Cheers,

Brian

PS: But JEEZ I am dying to see that bike !

Man rad to bad you dont live here in good old ohio. I could have pointed you to no less than a dozen automotive painters who would have gotten that frame one month and had it back to you the next. And thats if you said i dont need it for a few months.
Hell my dad would have likely done it really cheaply and quick and gave you a bike with the highest quality finish you wanted how ever you wanted it.

Heh who you think will be doing my raliegh gran prix when the time comes

You have unbeleivable paitance to much if you ask me.

Ya know, I admire your patience. But what's the hold up? Is this guy just insanely busy or did you request some out of this world paint job? Good thing you don't have to pay more than what you have already, but why such a delay.
