Weight Tracking

So I made a spreadsheet to keep track of my weight and riding practices. There are fields for daily input, but weighing yourself daily is unhealthy. All the inputs are to be put into the year pages and the overview will calculate everything for you. Its on a 5 year time frame, which should be plenty for the time being. I set up this template for anyone to use, feel free to make recommendations and ask questions.

Version 1.0:

https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?...thkey=CL-M3bkM

Known issues:
- Total weight loss for any given month.

Nice going.

Little issue: I played with the first 5 weeks. It had me losing negative 269 pounds for January. The formula for total weight loss for the month takes the amount in cell B39 and subtracts the weight in cell B2. Since I hadn't entered anything in B39 yet, it read the value of that cell as zero. Hence the negative weight loss.

There's a fix somewhere, but it's a Friday after a hard week, and before a 3-week vacation. My brain is sleeping. All I can do to type.

I can't get it to work at all, and I'm pretty decent with excel formats. Might be on the sites side more than us...

I see whats going on and I didn't take that into account. I need to figure out a way to have it use the first and last amount that was entered from a group of cells. If anyone knows how to get this to work so I don't have to do the work, I would appreciate that.

What is going on, im more than happy to help. Temporarily dont expect the right values to show up in the total weight loss. The other areas should work, I hope.

My view of the "weighing daily" thing you mentioned...I get that it can be discouraging to weigh daily and see those fluctuations that are out of your control. But to me, it was WAY more useful to weigh myself daily and use statistics to get rid of those fluctuations/noise that you see.

You can read about the approach that I've been using here: http://www.fourmilab.ch/hackdiet/e4/

It views weight loss from a point of view I hadn't thought of before. A lot of the stuff in the overall book isn't ideal, and certainly wasn't ideal for me, but the weight tracking and the provided excel spreadsheets are GREAT for me. Basically, it continually calculates a running weighted-average for your weight. This smooths out the noise, and lets you see your "real" weight, or at least a comparison between your current/daily weight and a weighted average that shows what you weighed the day before. As long as your daily weight is below your previous average weight, then you know you're doing well and still losing weight. It's extremely helpful/encouraging for me as I'm trying to lose some pounds to see that even if my weight goes up from one day to the next, I'm still below my weighted-average weight, so I'm still doing well.

It helps me tremendously to get that daily feedback. If I fall off the wagon, I can SEE what it does. If I do great but still have that day where my weight goes back up, it helps me to not be frustrated because I can see that I'm still succeeding.

For some reason the Google site won't allow me type any info on the spreadsheet. I am signed on, so that's not the issue. Stupid me just downloaded the template to my Excel, and it's working fine. I guess my mind wasn't working very well last night, LOL! It does need some tweaking, but it's a nice spreadsheet you've come up with. Thanks for sharing it with us!!

Features:
- total loss fix
- running calculations

Any requests, I'm truly open to community recommendations.

Stuck on this portion of code, if anyone can help me figure out why its 0 I would appreciate it.

Code:
=ARRAYFORMULA((index('2011'!B2:B32,Small(if('2011'!B2:B32<>0,row('2011'!B2:B32)),1),1))-(index('2011'!B2:B32,large(if('2011'!B2:B32<>0,row('2011'!B2:B32)),1),1)))

Didn't download spreadsheet so I may be offbase. But if large = small or range is unpopulated the result = 0

I use Calorie count dot com to track my calorie input and output and my weight. It will project to the date of your goal, but it's just a rough estimate.

I like using this because my problem is not being aware of what I eat if I don't track it.

Well for the example of making this work, i have populated 3 weights in a month of 30 inputs. All cells begin with a 0.

What this code is supposed to do is index all the cells that do not have a 0, then it subtracts the first number (small) from the last number (large). Things like this are new to me and I dont know very much about coding in spreadsheets.

I do data storage and retrival with databases so I too am unfamilar with Excel's data functions. A database is probably more overhead than you'll want though. The 50+ forum is full of geeks like me maybe one of them is an excel pro.

Sorry but good luck.
