I like the signs that illustrate what will happen if you don’t drive safely. Like flying off a cliff or being mangled by a bear.

Pretty much, I like them.

We don't have any self-educating infrastructure here, just paint and a very few bendy sticks, so anything would be an improvement. Sadly, Caltrans likes paint and bendy sticks, so that's what they're using on the most dangerous stroad/highway through town in several hundred miles.

As for policymaker education, yes please! There are people and organizations in my area that are working on dragging the City Engineers into the 21st Century, but it's an uphill slog. I definitely want to look into the Week Without Driving challenge.

Driver's ed and non-driver's ed desperately need updating, everywhere in North America. PSAs, definitely. There was a small hullabaloo when Arcata's City Engineer released a bunch of them that focused on cyclists and pedestrians rather than drivers, and put the Transportation Safety Committee's name on them; we gave him a stern talking-to. They were awful, and we never saw them until they were released.

I like them too. Or at least the intent.

One of the biggest issues is education. And not just with regard to traffic that apply specifically to cycling. A good overall education can help one realize why the laws many times are just common sense and not just something to impede ones enjoyment.

However even those that do have a good education many times just learn enough to pass the written with a minimum score and then get their driving skills by riding with their parent or another that will just focus on the driving of the vehicle itself. Not so much on interactions with others. And their own views of what is and isn't the law or just common sense or courtesy wrongly based.

So, not a fan of teaching to the test? You have to admit, though, that barely educated workers who were never taught how to think make good compliant workers who don't question their corporate overlords employers. But that's edging into P&R territory, so I'll stop here.

Bicycle law and safety need to be a part of Driver's Ed, everywhere, starting NOW. It wouldn't even hurt to have a sentence or two on road funding. Put it in law enforcement training academies as well.
