My New Bike

So, after getting back into Road cycling after a long break, I started riding a friends Trek winter bike.

After doing a few rides, and feeling pretty good, I started looking for a bike for myself.

Started looking at the Trek Domane, after trying out a couple, one of the owners at my LBS pulled a Trek Madone 4.5 out of the back room and had me try it, it fit well. I did a couple 20mile test rides and the bike is nimble and quick. So, I bought it.

It is a "new" 2011 Trek Madone 4.5 (60cm, 105 components)

Another new bike! I'm amazed at how the sport, or cycling in general keeps growing.

Maybe I shouldn't be amazed, all I need to do is look at the increasing number of bikes in my garage.

There is a problem with posting pictures of new bike on a bike forum. It spreads the dreaded N+1 infection. So if we see more new bikes, new builds, new projects we will know who to blame.

Well, I am already looking at a second one, thinking a CX bike might be fun to hit some firetrails on. ;-)

Really am liking the Trek, I am new to Carbon Fiber and Brifters, and it has a really good ride, and smooth shifting/braking. I have a little over 100 miles on it now.

Last new bike I had was a Cannondale M1000 Mountain Bike, almost 18 years ago.

When I got back into cycling after 20 years worth of layoff I started with a comfort bike. All 265 pounds of me. I Got down to 240 and I got a MTB. At 220 I started looking for a road bike. My memory of a road bike was a aircraft grade steel Viscount Aerospace Pro. The last road bike I had before getting caught up in the management race. I started looking for the same kind of machine as I remembered. I was shocked to learn most LBS didn't have anything like it. Just about every road bike they made was lighter and either Aluminum or CF. My First Road new road bike was a Aluminum Jamis with Shimano Brifters. As I test road the thing I must have looked like a basking shark with my mough open trying to suck up plankton. It was like going from a 4 door sedan to a Mustang GT. They I got a Scandium Frame and built up my second road bike with SRAM Force Groupo and Dura Ace brakes. My next road bike was CF with force and Dura Ace CF wheels. My newest build is CF with Sram Red and had built DT Swiss wheels and Hope hubs. To me I have gone from Sopwith Camel to a F-20. I have never looked back. Well once I tried to go back to classic and vintage but after a few months I converted the Klein to Sram and had built wheels as well.

Yes, very. And the new warranty. And they put a shorter stem on, and moved the brake hoods up a bit, re-wrapped the bars, put on my new pedals, new Node computer, and did a fitting.

Good group at my local shop. They also organize a road ride 3 days a week.

of course I proceeded to quickly spend another several hundred dollars on "accessories"
