Will it ruin my gloves to wash them?
Kind of a moot question, cause they stink so bad I'm gonna wash them anyway. I'll probably just throw them in the machine. Any other suggestions?

Don't they come with washing instructions? I wash my Performance gloves in the washing machine along with the color clothes ... no problems. I also have a pair of O'Neal dirt bike gloves (for mountain biking), very comfortable glove, same wash cycle, no problems.
Just look at the care instructions and see if you can come close to what they are asking.

DUDE - WASH YOUR GLOVES!!!
I wash mine with my bike cloths. Just make sure the velcro closures are closed as you wouldn't want to mess up your expensive lycra shorts (not that it would, I'm just paranoid about it).
Funky gloves suck... and stink

so I wasn't sure about washing mine. I washed them by hand
just to be safe and then hung them up to dry. No problems.
I guess I wasn't concerned about washing them it was the drier
I was nervous about.

I suppose it wouldn't kill me to read the instructions. But I'd rather not get too near the inside of those gloves right now.

I wash mine with my bike clothes, I put 3 pairs at a time in a pillow case and tie it off, this assures that the velcro won't come undone and ruin all my shorts

If they have gel inside the gloves, wash them in cold in order to prevent ruining the gel. Then hang them to dry.
I either wash in the cold wash and hang dry or I just hand wash them in the sink in cold and hang them to dry in either case. Stuff with gel lasts for years for me.
When in doubt, wash in cold, hang to dry...

Washing your kit:
Washing:
1) Zip up all jerseys and turn them inside out.
2) Turn shorts inside out.
3) Socks the same
4) gloves - Re-secure the velcro so it won't grab the jerseys & shorts, place into a cloth-mesh bag (can find in store for washing delicates)
5) Set washer on gentle cycle. Set water level one higher than normal.
6) Add a tad more soap than recommended (bike clothes are smelly/dirty)
Drying:
1) Set dryer on lowest possible heat level.
2) remove when dry. Gloves may take longer and may go with next load (just leave them in the cloth mesh bag until dry.
Shoes:
1) Wash by hand, removing the sole inserts and washing them too. Use hand soap or degreaser where needed and scrub with a soft brush.
2) Drying: Place inside the clothes dryer on the drying rack... Well if your dryer has a drying rack. It is a special rack that can be placed into the dryer just for drying stuff that would be destroyed if you tumble dry them. I usually set the dryer on higest heat setting and it ususally takes two cycles to dry them.

I throw everything in the washing machine then everything in the drier.
I too experienced a funny feeling putting on my gloves after their first wash. It felt too good!

I am pleased to report the washing experiment was a grand success. I washed the gloves in a mesh bag with my other cycling stuff and hung them out to dry. No problems at all. Now my gloves are fresh as a spring morning.
As for washing shoes in the dishwasher. I think I'll pass. My wife is tepid enough about my hobby. If she saw my shoes in the dishwasher that would be the last straw. No thanks.

Let them get old enough and you'll find that the dryer won't destroy all gloves. Mine are antiques by riding standards, and I dry them every time.
When I finally get a new pair, I'll probably worry about them more, but it just goes to show that non-gel gloves come out of the washer and dryer just fine. Usually.

Just ride.
You figured it out already, but yeah, washing can't be worse than what they're getting anyway. After pretty much every ride I rinse my helmet and gloves in the sink. No soap, just rinse them out good, "change the oil" in the sponges, terrycloth, etc. Put 'em outside somewhere to dry, so bacteria won't have a chance to go crazy, and they'll be dry in time for my next ride.

i've got these nice comfy 'pittards' leather gloves from Performance, and wasn't sure what to do because of course you can't wash leather, right? but they're getting stinky after two months. and there are no washing instructions on them. so i emailed them, and sure enough, you can wash them. huh. weird. they recommend cold wash, line dry.
perhaps i'll try washing those leather pants of mine next....
