Colnago Super value- not mint, nor original

So as I continue to downsize the collection this Colnago I picked up late one day is in the mix. It's bit small for me.

Cosmetically I'd put the paint at a 5/10 due to a lot of poor touch up by a previous owner. Chrome is nice though. Those decals are newer and poorly applied also. I honestly think I paid too much but it looked good in the dark, LOL!

Cosmetics aside I pulled off and fully serviced all the parts. Cleaned, degreased, polished, and relubed. Upgraded to modern cable housings and cables. New brake pads, rebuilt the RD with new pulleys since the old ones were trashed. New saddle, Thomsen Seatpost, Fulcrum Racing Zero Wheels with some very low mile, plus Veloflex tires and latex tubes. New 8 speed cassette on the wheels. Worked the DT shifters over well to included polishing them inside and out. Shifting is really smooth and precise now.

So an odd build that rides like a dream. How would you price this? Is it better to put on the old school 6 speed equipped freewheeled wheelset?

If it matters for value, this will be a local listing only not something on Ebay or whatever that will be shipped.

With a set of wheels more appropriate to the rest of the build, I would think $1,000. You likely have more than that in the build.
Sold my perfect 83 Superissimo for $1350 as a reference data point. Also had more than that in the build.

Wow, I would not have guessed at the value being even that. I have the wheels that came with it or maybe even one of my more classic set's of tubulars with nice plush 27mm tubes. It does ride so smoothly with plush tires.

Come on man....live a little. These wheels wake the ol' girl right up!

Seriously though, they sure do invoke a love or hate reaction. Sometimes you just have to step out of the comfort zone. Now to sell it I'd love to keep those Fulcrum wheels and it does make sense to put something more classical on it.

These are what it came with and are still hanging in the garage.....so boring.....yawn....

Boring perhaps, but more in line with what many would expect.
Don’t recall build offhand, thought it was all Chorus era stuff, if it’s not would pull the value down a little.
But your stuff is so well built and maintained that any serious in-person buyer would be willing to pay a premium for truly ‘needs nothing’.

There's someone local to me who is selling a spiffy looking Colnago Super at $1600 in my size. I reckon that price is too high for the local market to bear. I've been tempted but I really, really don't need another bike. I picked up a Pinarello cross earlier this year that I haven't built yet . . .

Those wheels in the OP look fine. I mean, it is a Colnago after all. But since you have other wheels you could sell it with why not give the buyer a choice of wheels?

This one is Victory. The paint and decals on this really bother me though. It looks much better in the pics than it really is. Other than the appearance I did put a lot of time sorting this one out and if I don't sell it will probably be tempted to spend more on this one just because it rides so well.

You need an admin, not a mod. You can email the site administrator. "contact us" link at the bottom of every page. Or pm Siu when you get enough posts. We will ban this account when your old one is restored.

Generally we delete junk posts, just so ya know.

I bought a 1975 Super in "rider " condition from a member here on BF back in November and although the paint shows its age , it is a fine bike with period correct components. The seller was even nice enough to box and ship the bike. I didn't pay $1000(much less) for it though and I feel I got a great deal for a bike I can just ride and enjoy ....until I have it repainted and restored.

Going through adolescence sock puppets were more fun than fishing in the creek.

Part of a deal I made with another bike enthusiast were he took this and three other bikes while giving me a chunk of change and a De Rosa. So I freed up three more spaces in the bike cave, got some money and a De Rosa that I have to decide whether I'm going to keep or sell.
