A mod could move this into the Hints and Tricks. The problem with a stand alone thread is that if you don't post in it almost every day (blog) then it moves down the page and eventually disappears. My personal mod is BillyD but I think you could contact any of them to move this. And yes, all tips are appreciated.

That's weird. I recommended a blog in post #28 and you seemed to take offense.

Seemed? No. I took offense, because you've posted the same comment (with a very slightly altered wording) in another of my threads.

Before that, in the same post, you quoted me:

Quoting that, to me, implies that you think I'm guilty of hypocrisy. But the key word is 'POSITIVE'. I have found nothing positive in your input.

In post #28, you wrote:

Seems to me you're simply trying to bug me. To possibly make you happy, I admit to my feeling bugged by you.

Please just let it go, and I'll do the same. I wish you well. I might be misinterpreting your intent. Doesn't matter. This can go only downhill, as I see it, and who really needs to witness that?

Any chance of a wrenching tip or two from you?

If you start a thread and then provide most of the replies, perhaps you actually need a blog.

What's the value in that? How on Earth could I read anything positive in it? What's it got to do with wrenching? A PM would have been far preferable. And perhaps some discussion. Some blogging tips. I, rightly or wrongly, read it as sarcastic ... I'm posting too much in a thread I started. Change your ways!

No matter.

Next up, a post from me about how to test the quality of ball bearings at home without the need for specialized equipment. I'm especially looking forward to creating it, because of its genesis.

Cheers!
I read the posts and the responses. Far too ruffled. Good luck.

Would agree with cyccommuter, I use the shifter every time. Course the first thing I do is make sure the hanger is straight, and the high limit screw is set, then as long as the der is smoothly jumping from cog to cog, you should have no issue shifting into the top cog, at which point I'll check to see if the lower limit screw is set, if it screws in then adjustment is probably done but shift it in and out a few times to check for consistent results. If the der felt hard to shift into the final cog or struggles to do so, then I let the screw out several turns and set it back till it just touches, again, repeat shifting in and out multiple times to check for consistent, smooth results.

If its carbon, use a torque wrench, and move from bolt to bolt, tighten one, go back to the other, if there's 4 do similar. Sometimes the torque wrench will say they're tight enough but once the others are tightened the first isn't.

The biggest pro tip I can give is always assume everyone else who ever touched the bike was an idiot who either didn't know what they were doing or weren't paying attention while they were doing in, even if you were the last one to touch it, and then try not to be an inattentive idiot. Don't assume the person who built it properly adjusted the limit screws, they often don't, don't assume the stem bolts are tightened or the handlebar bolts, until you've spun the wheel don't imagine the hubs aren't too tight, when working on a bike start with the assumption nothing is exactly as it should be.

WTF?

There's ALWAYS one! This time, it's you.

Very sorry, SIR, I am, to have offended you in some way.

No explanation. You just heavily slight my character on a whim.

Disgusting behaviour!

Whither and die? You want me to whither and die? It's a bicycle forum.

Oh, my!

I'm leaving this post intact, that others might better know you for who what you are.

I wish you luck in all your future endeavours, but I can't say I'm too optimistic about your prospects in life.

Cheers!

Here's the PM I sent to Shelbyfv earlier today:

You posted about incorporating the OP's posts (mine) into 'hints and tricks', to avoid their being lost to posterity. It struck me that you feel my input is of value. I've sent this message because I felt it inappropriate to chat about this in the open forum.

Do you think my posts are of value? It's my goal to ensure that every one of them has value. I'm just a regular guy, with a headful of stuff I'm keen to pass on before I ... you know. I'm retired now in Poland, where I've been for almost thirty years. I have a UK pension, so am not under financial pressure. I have plenty of free time, and am enjoying it. I rent a garage in the garden of where I live, and this gives me the chance to store and work on bikes.
I'm not here for attention, or ego satisfaction, or anything like that. I genuinely am here told help others. I reckon you've picked up on that already.

I have a saying I came up with, that sums me up quite well:

I have been propelled through the sea of life by the most amazingly powerful whims and fancies. I sail on!

Kinda cute, I think .

Take good care!

May those whom you love love you back in equal measure.

Rob

The response? Here it is:

So, go figure!

Hurry up! Shelbyfv told me he/she has a personal mod here.

All pals together, no doubt.

Funny thing is ... I WILL whither and die. Hopefully more slowly than the fate Shelbyfv has wished upon me.

Gotta retain a sense of humour. Who are we, without it?

I wish you all success, health, prosperity and love.

Shelbyfv included, even though he has trashed me publicly. Understand?

x

Get wise! Stay wise!

Seems to me like Kayote has 'won'.

May he/she cycle long in his/her higher-end cycling apparel.

Haha!

I'm just a dipstick in the sump of life. What do I know of any value?

Best song EVER?

ALWAYS tread lightly when close to trees, in fear of disturbing them. When close to people? Please yourself how you tread. Nobody will really care.

I wrote this:

INTO THE APOCALYPSE

The disquiet of apprehension and deranged speculation quickly took root in the souls of those paying heed to his proclamations, all sense of rational interpretation at best greatly diminished and, most often, annihilated.
I found myself clamped in a crowd frequently aggressive beyond comprehension, to satisfy a curiosity nurtured by gossip and rumour, in the hope of finding solace in something lavish. Some saw in him a saviour, a sage, a winged prophet, a beacon. Delirious they became, disturbing the sanctity of homely streets, arms flailing in support of wild emotion as others traipsed from corner to corner, silent and clearly ridden with angst, their powerless fists shaming listless arms.

Sodden sheets, suggesting flags stripped of emblem and billowing in a breeze no longer trusted, heralded the new age. Trust had fled, usurped by brooding suspicion. Sheets contaminated by the sweat of human dread, dragged daily from the pit of sleep disturbed for dubious refreshment in the absence of clean water.

From strand to strand, we leap through times not yet archived. Hand in hand, we eject our vicious grins to birth malice in all who cross our path. Each strand a parent of innumerable darker strands, and each of those fostering a rampant clone seeking refuge from the pain of light. A cosmic network of despair, needing not a map, for he has trod all paths before. We slip and slide, in a perverse union forced upon me, to spread diseased origin.

As I said ... tread carefully when close to people.

Waiting for the ban to drop ...

I wrote this:

I pretend to be asleep
As I delight
In the excitement
Of her leaning forwards
To slide feet
Into socks.
The smooth gliding
Of cotton over skin;
The material gently
Tugged and twisted,
Until comfort feels
Optimal.
She reaches for her skirt,
And I lose
Consciousness.

Yet I am besmirched, by an anonymous person.

Maybe spend a moment or two on this:

Autumn

Spring's young buds now autumn's waste,
Spent leaves released in chilly haste;
On crispy grass a rustling crown,
A tapestry by the wind laid down.

No human hand need play a part
To weave beneath our feet this art
That marks the end of summer's reign,
In curling gold with scarlet stain.

December's friends, the ice and snow,
Will paint this carpet black, we know;
Will stamp it flat, its beauty mock!
That's life - it's ruled by the clock.

Yet I am besmirched, by an anonymous person.

Go figure, and decide whether you think I was a troll here.

Waiting for the ban to drop ...

BEFORE I GO WILD

Before I go wild,
Tuck me in like a child;
Sit by the bed
As the candle burns low.
Sing me to sleep
And tell me what the dancing shadows mean;
Lead me into dreams
I've had before,
As the bottle slips the hand
And tumbles, rolling, from the quilt
Towards the door.

Before I go wild,
With my mind
In the folds of a curtain,
Kiss me on the cheek
And stroke my hair;
Tell me you love me
And tell me why
This chill in the air
Smells of despair.

Close the door softly
Before I go wild;
Mind the bottle
On your way out,
And don't worry
About it,
For I have another.

Yet I am besmirched, by an anonymous person.

My partner died eight years ago. We had laughed and cried together for twenty one years. After the funeral, I wrote this:

FORGET ME NOT

Forget me not,
as I remember flowers
that leave in the night.

Forget me not,
lest this frost bite deep
into my aching root.

Forget me not,
as I look to the ground
and would be swallowed.

Forget me not,
lest I despair too long
and decay in haste.

Yet I am besmirched, by an anonymous person.

Waiting for the ban to drop ...

CORAL

With you,
I am the Indian Ocean!
Take me to even deeper water!
Spread your wings over me;
Dive with me to kiss a pearl,
Like mad people do!
Hold my hand tightly!
Shame the coral,
As I bask in the heat
Of your sparkly eyes
Shining brighter than the sun

Yet I am besmirched, by an anonymous person.

Waiting for the ban to drop ...

THE WINDING LANES

When the winding lanes have finally worn you out,
And the tease of moorland mist has strained your nerve;
When you feel the muscles pull on steep ascent,
You may rejoice in your place upon the curve
Of a planet rich in wonder and surprise.
But be not pompous, judging your delight
To be a proof that what you have’s the best,
For each nation madly claims to own the night
Which falls the same on all, but for the hour;
Wherever people live, a star’s their star!
Though England’s dreams are rich, her history’s poor,
And we’re still judged in every single bar
In countries where the people felt the tramp
Of English boots, hob-nailed and highly-polished;
The world’s grown small, and England, thankfully, with it;
She’s pretty, still, just somehow strangely famished.

Yet I am besmirched, by an anonymous person.

Waiting for the ban to drop ...

Just to be clear, "Do not feed it, let it wither and die" is the advice given by mods for dealing with trolls. Nobody wishes you ill health. I've edited my post since the meaning was apparently unclear. Bye bye.

It turns out that Koyote's blog suggestion might have been more on-target than originally recognized. This discussion forum format doesn't seem to be a great fit for the OP, who has apparently taken his ball and gone home.

Thanks. It's just the way the mop flops online. There are no 'sides' in my life. They do what they do, I do what I do. Never the twain must agree. Adds spice to life. Unfortunately, that spice has led to my demise here. I settled an issue with Koyote, then Shelbyfv sneaks in telling you all about his desire that I 'whither and die'. What am I supposed to do? Waste more of my time dealing with Shelbyfv, or just sod off and leave you all with him?

Didn't take my mind many nanoseconds to decide to sod off and leave you all with him.

Never been so insulted in my life. No line of defence. No arbitration. No moderation. Just a disgusting comment, for all to see a disparaging of my character.

I hope you will check out the brighter parts of my previous post. Shame you'll never get to learn from me a method of checking the quality of ball bearings at home. It's online, though. Search 'atomic trampoline', and figure it out for yourself. You need two ball bearings, one of high quality, the other of low quality. Drop each in turn (separately) into a long tube standing on a ceramic tile, and time it, until silence happens. The one that makes a sound for longer will be of better quality.

The posts here vvvv are about checking the hardness of an anvil. Reverse the thinking, and you will easily figure out how to check ball bearing quality:

https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/...icates.660198/

Unfortunately, I am besmirched by an anonymous person, so I'll leave it at that.

Cheers!

Someone pissed me off. I dealt with it like an adult. It got sorted.

How far up your backside have you got your head? It was Shelbyfv's turdy comment that saw me off. I didn't know that 'whither and die' is a phrase popular with mods, and doesn't ACTUALLY mean 'whither and die'.

Gimme strength! Am I supposed to accept a death wish (on the face of it, to me) and carry on as if all was sweet in the meadow?

Grow up!

Almost a thousand views has this thread, and Shelbyfv pushed me out of it.

But ... there is a light that never goes out!

Mary Cigarettes

Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin is a huge fan of his music.

Hardly surprising:

Mary (aka Gregory Gray) made a few quid early in his career, but decided to leave the circus and to write, play and produce music for free. You can find his music (lots of) online with a simple search. Do with it what you want. No copyright. Mary's gift to the world.

An astounding person. Talented to the point of ... (your word here, after listening to his performances).
