They can't charge you with carrying concealed weapons.

You really don't look stupid - bright colored clown clothes are good safety gear on the road - drivers notice you more. Some may think you look silly but they need to see you to make that comment. Wear what you like and what makes you feel good.

I'm not saying anyone looks stupid wearing "race" clothes. I'm just saying it ain't for me. People who wear that stuff look like.....um..... Bicycle Racers.
Non bicycle riders do make fun of people who wear tights and pointy helmets in public. FWIW, I wear a pointy helmet and I own a couple of plain white jerseys.
I don't understand why motorcycle riders have the the need to dress in fringed black leather either.
Dressing in a costume would be out-of-character for me.

Why should we worry about what 'non bicycle riders' think about what we wear in public? And, do you mean on public roads?
I don't dress like a Bike Racer but I do dress like a cyclist - there is some overlap.

Some teams don't care much about what friends want.

https://shop.rockracing.com/Team_Sock...77/p/1076.html

Or maybe they don't have friends? Either way I like the look.

I bought a jersey at one of their outlets but haven't found the socks yet.

Guess I need to look into getting a Tat.

Black socks are fine, but they should end closer to your ankles than to your knees.

Bright colors are one thing, team and product logos are another matter entirely.

With a wool jersey (not exactly a team jersey) I look a little less fat (compared to Lycra).
Plus, it goes with the bike (make and vintage wise). Photo taken on the fixed gear ride to Long Beach,
106 miles without coasting!

Jersey is circa (approx.) 1982. Bike is circa 1975.

Here's a photo of Big John,

No team livery, no advertising, just a jersey with Big John in it! Plus, it matches his helmet (and at least one of his bikes!).

With that outfit you could be mistaken for a beach cop. Missing items are: badge, cuffs, 9mm Glock and shoulder radio.

Most of my clothing is pretty generic, although I did buy a Gerolsteiner team jersey a few years ago (back when Levi Leipheimer was on that team - plus, I liked the color combination).

Being a 54 year old Clydesdale, I can't be accused of posing, since the differences are so completely obvious.... (Actually, at 6' 4", at least SOME of my Clyde status is due to height, rather than width. But not all of it.)

I do remember one time when a car-full of high school-age girls drove past me, and one of them yelled out, "nice a**!"

I chose to interpret that comment as the sincere compliment it was no doubt intended as. Or so I would like to believe....

Everything we wear can be construed as a costume by someone. People who make fun of others aren't on my radar screen as worth caring too much about. While I do like not being a total outcast in the community where I live, the very fact that I ride a bicycle and am 58 years old puts in a category where some folks will make fun.
