Pedals: 105 vs Ultegra or...?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Shimano pedals will last years and years, spend the extra $40 and bling it up with dura ace. Buy once cry once

Old thread resurrection but that doesn't change the fact that 5800 to 6800 is a very small difference. Back in 2011 I don't think the 105's were available in carbon, now carbon is all that's available. I have a set of both and plan on getting another 105 equipped aluminum bike that will be the perfect home for the 105's. There is no discernible difference other than what the spec sheet says and it has zero effect on performance.

My 105s are older than this thread. Shoot - I have DA 25 years older than this thread.

I use Ultegras but only because I wanted it to match the rest of my Ultegra groupset. Nothing more than that. I assume I would have been equally as happy with the performance of a 105.

I just ordered Ultegras last night for 85 bucks. Normally they go for 95 when 105's are like 90 bucks. I don't see why you would choose 105 over Ultegra when the price is that close.

Don't pay more than this for the Ultegra's:

And at this price for the 105's, why wouldn't you go for the Ultegra's??? ($3 difference)

FWIW: If you are a weight weenie, Shimano's are not a good choice. Not certain, but I believe most of those guys and gals run Time or Speedplay, but you would have to look into it. Don't forget to include the weight of the cleat in your analysis.
