I just don't understand why you are being obnoxious about it. Did you have a bad day? If you find it annoying I asked - don't respond. Ignore the post. But think before you post/respond.

Nothing I wrote was obnoxious. I asked because of what you wrote:

“I agree - it's hard to name something when you don't have a feel for what it looks like.”

I actually had a great day. Brought some homemade caramel ice cream to my local, watched the Phillies win and then went out to dinner with a friend.

But based on your reply and the advice contained therein, I will be updating my iggy list. Many thanks for the suggestion. Maybe I’ll take a peek if you post pics!

This is really confusing. Should he ignore your post or should he respond to your post?

I thought I was making a fun post. a bike with a name like Surly Ogre begs for a fun name. When I did a google search I see several people have named it Fiona. Most bikes are just different - like being named Co-op adv 1.1.... That is a blank slate for a starting point. But Surly Ogre is already a "vibe".

But I guess I'm speaking to the wrong crowd who don't like to have fun. I thought some people might come up with some cute Ogre like name suggestions.

Some names some friends came up with today are: Oscar, Bingo (Short for big ugly), Bug, Grungie, Princess

So never mind.

Bingo and Oscar are cute ogre-like names?

You got over a dozen suggestions in this thread and, overall, they were funnier and more interesting than the five suggestions you got from your friends.

It’s not confusing at all. Nor is it a contradiction.

I name some of my bikes, mostly to make it easier for me to keep track of them in Strava.

I called my Surly Steamroller Bikey McBikeface.

I have an old Japanese road bike the manufacturer called Custom 12, but that's boring, so I call it the Red Rocket. It's ironically named, because it's about my slowest bike.

My All City Nature Boy came with a cool enough name, so I kept it.

Have to admit Surly's own model names are some of the best in the business. Ice Cream Truck? Krampus? They're having fun with it.

Perhaps, given the tan/khaki paint scheme ...

There are some pretty cool suggestions here - things to expand my options. I'll go back and respond to some of these in a bit - maybe tomorrow, but I wanted to respond to those who have made suggestions to let you know I will get back to your suggestions.

I know this is 100% silly. But I have been looking for a bike for almost 2 years and during the last, especially nearly half year my life has been torture as I caretake with my partner my mother in law who lives with us and who has moderate dementia and fell and broke her pelvis this spring. While we also homeschool our teen with autism who just finished a couple courses at community college while all of that was going down. Riding is my escape and now I can't do that either.

I was supposed to do a long touring ride this spring and summer. Instead I can fantasize about it and when I get some sleep, ride the trainer to get some miles in.

My mother in law is failing and probably won't be with us much longer, prepping the bike - naming the bike, having SOMETHING to look forward to is the only thing that I keeping me sane.

Name it Stole ... as in, "ride it like you stole it ..."

Alternate suggestion: Coyote (for reasons that should be obvious).

Roach is kind of interesting. I'm a woman. I don't smoke weed. I hate roaches (have had to deal with them in big city living in the past) But a Bug name is fitting to an Ogre.
