My first bike (after my Sears 3-speed) was a Belgian Arrows, a fairly-decent road bike, with butted tubes only in the main triangle, Huret shifters, 27"x1" tires.

Trek 720 Touring bike, 1984. My wife got a 520. On our first ride we got on the road, made it to the first stop light, looked at each other, cursed and we both fell to the ground with our feet locked in the toe clips. A month or so later with virtually no experience we did a 1200mi fully loaded bike tour which continued the inexperienced theme when on the first night I began to cuss as we set up our tent. Curious, my wife asked what was wrong. I asked her what we forgot, knowing we had made list after list and carefully ensured we had absolutely everything we could need. She was clueless. Being Alaskans, and it being summer, we had failed to bring a flashlight because....summer. Nobody has to think about flashlights in summer. Right? We spent the next several hours in the dark but we were young and somehow found pleasant ways to pass the time. We found and bought flashlights the next day.

Unless you count a Royce Union Stingray knockoff as a road bike, my first real road bike was a Bianchi Portofino I purchased at ... probably 27 years old.
Gawd, I rode that thing all over. I figured out that it had maybe 80,000 miles on it before it rusted to pieces. It was Sierra Green and had Tange tubing. It looked something like this.
I actually still have it somewhere. I might consider restoring it if I could get the seat tube out of the seat post.

Yellow 1977 Azuki 10-speed I got a year before I got my driver's license. It was neglected, bent and rusted by Junior year of college. I can't remember if I tossed it, gave it away, or it was stolen. Seven years ago I saw the same bike, but in red. I had to touch it and lift it. Weighed more thab a Schwinn Varsity.

At the age of 15, I graduated from cutting lawns to start my first real job at George Garner Cyclery in Northbrook, IL. George Garner Cyclery was a performance oriented shop with a large volume of racing bikes sold.
I'm the original owner of a new Paramount in 1973, I had the bike rebuild at the Chicago factory in 1983. It has been lightly used since.

Mine was a 1970 Peugeot with full campy.
It was actually my big sisters (dad always liked her more) but since she never rode it, the bike was effectively mine, on the condition that I never pedal while holding the brakes.
I was twelve. Good times.

60s vintage Fiorelli 10 speed bike with entry level Campy components. Darn good used bike for $100. Kept it until the mid 70s when it fell off the bike rack and by time I realized it was gone, it was really gone.

Here's my first. Raleigh R600. Bought it in March 1999. Rode it many miles and even as a commuter for a few years. Sold it after I got a "better" commuter.

A full-Campy 1970 Peugeot does not sound like normal production, Mercator. Can we hear more about it? I always thought the top model then was a PX-10, with all French lightweight parts.
