Cape Cod Fall biking

was just looking at pics & vids from summer vacation & saw that while on the CCRT this summer we rode by Maurice's Campground, 80 State Highway 6, Alternate
#1 , Wellfleet, MA 02667, (508) 349-2029 Just called & found out they are open thru Columbus Day weekend. personally don't know how the accommodations are, but if you're into camping, you know the drill. but they also have modest cabins & cottages. if you're into fall cycling near the ocean, on the cheap, this might be worth considering. summer too

fwiw - lots of other places to stay in the area w/ easy access to the CCRT, like motels & B&Bs, etc but this is pretty darn convenient!

but I do like North of Highland Camping Area in North Truro really good campsites & facilities. basically raised our kids camping & biking here. walking & riding distance to 2 ocean beaches & a newly renovated bike trail north toward Provincetown

a family favorite, while camping, has always been the Meadow Trail aka Head of the Meadow Trail, N. Truro. as the kids got older we wanted to bike to other beaches & so we went further crossing Route 6 & rode 6A thru Provincetown to the end where the beaches are. along the way we always stopped to pay tribute to the Pilgrims' first fresh water, at Pilgrim Spring! late this summer I took a ride w/ one of my nephews cuz he had never been. only rode to mid-town & had lunch & drinks, but it was a fun 14ish miles he had never ridden before ... I was pleasantly surprised to see the trail was recently renovated!

My wife and I are heading to the Cape tomorrow, staying through Tuesday. We’ll definitely be on the CCRT, if anyone’s around and fancies a ride, let me now!

Got a lot of comments on the cookie monster Jersey but no one identified as a BF member. More importantly, I completed my longest ride ever at just over 50 miles.

That last one can be almost anywhere but it reminds me of Mayo beach Wellfleet where some cottages are close to the beach near the town harbor

It’s a bit east of the West Dennis Light.

We do a C&V ride on the CCRT every Patriot's day and Columbus Day weekend. While C&V themed, all are welcome.
Often down there other times. Drop me a line if you're on the Cape.

I just got PTO approved for Friday September 4th. I’m planning a 4 day ride from home to home via the Provincetown ferry. Too soon to book campsites and WAY to expensive to book motels. What’s with the 3 day minimum motel/hotel reservations on Labor Day weekend?

holiday weekend. why rent for 1 or 2 nites when they can rent for 3. you can always walk in a motel office the "day of" & ask. I spent 3 seasons as a short order cook & front desk clerk at a motel in N. Eastham. we had strategies for filling rooms. the later it got the lower the price got, etc

interesting idea but way too uncertain for my comfort level. IIRC campsites can be booked 6 months prior so it’s too soon for that. I could try Airbnb, which I’ve never done before. My last camping 4 day mini tour was 2018 and honestly I prefer the creature comforts of a room, which is what I did last year. Except it was a 2 day one night ride on a different weekend.

I heard that! btw, approx 40 years ago, I got desperate 1 nite & did a little stealth in-car camping along the powerlines. worked fine, except no bathroom. timing wise, what town(s) do you expect to be in when crashing for the night?

Haven’t got too specific yet. Night 1 will either be Plymouth or Sandwich. Both have campgrounds and motels. I’ve done both in Sandwich before and it’s about 85 miles. Certainly doable with a fully loaded touring bike but I always feel exhausted and a little dehydrated the next morning. I’m thinking Plymouth will be a reasonable distance. Plenty of food and dining options there. Beyond that I’m not sure yet. Either head to the vineyard (probably cost prohibitive) for day 2 or go to at least Dennis. Probably spend 2 days at the same place and just ride all day 3, CCRT and Old Colony. Day 4 ride to P town to catch ferry to Boston and then on home. Still a few details to work out.

so Ive figured it out. Im going to camp at Myles Standish Friday night. Saturday night through Monday morning I’ll be joining Mrs Ghazmh and the kids in Yarmouth at a beachside resort. This trip should have a little of everything. Camping, family time, plenty of time on the bike and the beach. Ill send the camping gear home with the family along with the panniers too.
