The seat stays are now directly welded to the seat tube instead on U'ing up around the wheel and being welded on to a wedge like surface. I'd assume this would make it more compliant. Definitely looks good. I'll add a pic when I get home of my 16' Roam.

Interesting, cool to know. I had wondered with 2018 models around the corner and all when the turnover would occur. My LBS hadnt touched on the point and had no leftovers to compare so I wasn't quite sure if it was a carryover design.

Do you feeling yourself wrapping all 4 on the gp3's? They look great on your bike.

I don't know for sure, but my guess is that this style will be with us for 3 or 4 years now in the Roam.

I use the bar ends 2 ways:

1) first and middle finger wrapped around the bar end itself, with pinky and 3rd finger wrapped around the lower knuckle that attaches the bar end to the grip, and the meaty part of my palm resting on the grip itself. In this case about 3/4" of bar end is still protruding up past my index finger, unused if you will. This position is very comfortable and allows a lot of control. I use this position the most as I find it works great for me as an alternate to take the strain off my wrists.

2) all 4 fingers wrapped, in which case, pinky, third and middle are fully wrapped around the bar end, and the index finger is only kind of half-sitting over the top of the bar end and kind of tucked back under my thumb, which is wrapped around my index finger. This is also very comfortable and gives plenty of control, even when grinding up out of the seat and pumping hard on the pedals. I use this position less than #1, but still use it quite a bit.

the GP4's would obviously give me a bit more of the bar for the index finger in position 2, but really, I never think I need that, I have plenty of grip in position 2, and it's really comfortable.

Plus, I just don't like the look of the GP4's, they look too big and mis-proportioned to me, but that's just personal preference I know. The GP3's as you noticed look great and are proportioned just right to me.

I'd say i'm about medium sized hand, fitting into large biking gloves...i figured the -3 would be the largest i'd go.

I don't do much virgin woods riding, or travel them with speed, where i feel i'd get it caught into a branch or anything but like you described i'd like the hand position to rock my way up inclines.

Just have to figure out whether the GP3 or GS3 is the way to go for my hands. I should probably see if any local LBS stock them....

Bought the Thule RideAlong Mini front mount child bike seat, so I can take my 1 year old with me on the Trek FX for bike rides around the neighborhood. I have no idea how it will fit with the FX I have. If it doesn't fit well, I might get an Electra cruiser or Townie.

Slow but steady progress. I installed the CX crankset. Chainring-to-chainstay clearance is a bit tight. Once I get it all together and ride it we'll see if it causes any problems. I may have to clearance the chainstay.

Today the Wolf Tooth Roadlink came in and I hung the RD. The Wolf Tooth piece is a well manufactured piece and it went on without any problems at all. Sorry for the dark pictures.

With the roadlink attached I installed the 105 RD.

And the FD went on. I had to use the seatpost shims that came with the derailleur as my seatpost is narrower that the derailleur clamp, but it works flawlessly.

Installed a Thule Ridealong Mini front mount child bike seat on a Trek 7.2 FX over the weekend. First official ride with my 1 year old son yesterday was a success. My knees do occasionally hit the bike seat so I had to bow out my knees a little. There is probably nothing more I can adjust on the FX to resolve the issue with my knee hitting the bike seat when pedaling normally. So I will most likely have to get a cruiser or comfort bike in the future.

While Day Riding trips.... the top tube bag is actually spacious enough to store my keys, my phone on display, wallet, snack, the 2 allen keys i need, and a spare tube...which sadly makes the saddle seat a bit redundant to where i may gift it to my brother.

During local Night Rides- I can also fit the battery pack for the light inside it so i don't have to strap it elsewhere, keeping the wiring clean thanks to the rotating zippers up top.

In storage- Keep the light kit and my gloves.

I had also grabbed another bag for my old Haro, which i recently sold before buying the Wife's Flourish. Not only does it not fit her step through tube design, she has a basket to take care of all her needs.

It's a bit different, but i like the phone positioning better higher up on the other one.

Also need to find an extension bracket to center my light





So I guess I'm keeping this dual pouch bag for the rare days i may need more storage. Not crazy about it cosmetically but its functional.

I def like the bike better with nothing on it , but some days i don't want to deal with a backpack.

Yesterday i bought my Roam a red headed step-sister

I know its not the place for Road bikes, but i'm excited to share my score and as someone who prefers a Hybrid i wanted to give this a chance without spending too much. Got it for $200

Its got some very minor cosmetic battle scars i'm touching up but mechanically sound, TLC underway. I think she's a looker, and she's quite fast. I have to ease into this , the Sora STi shifting and the 3 hand positions are all new territory for me but i'm adapting ok.

2009 Trek 1.5 Triple. Something to use when the buddies are riding road bikes.

I got a new white Bontrager Affinity 2 saddle and some Sram red bar tape from ebay coming for $35 total, should look sharp. For a such a low cost i feel i got an exceptional ride, and it seems my riding buddies much more versed on the market feel the same. Its no race ready bike, but its no bare bones entry level either. They can't believe i got for $200. All original parts but the prior owner barely rode it, rides new and smooth, and shifts perfect. What he did do over the course of 7 yrs is not have any regard for it and dropped it and leaned it up against anything while in storage, so it had its fair share of knicks and scuffs. After a thorough bug and tar cleaning of the frame, i 3M'd painter's taped and touched up all the pinstripping with nail polish and looks pretty dang clean all things considered.

Just needs a thorough drivetrain cleaning and lube this weekend and she'll feel mint for this season

I didn't like the chainring clearance on the 700 so I ordered some 1mm BB spacers. Since the Ultegra BBR60 bottom bracket says it fits 68-70mm BBs I put two spacers on the drive side. I could tell I was at the limit of the BB spread because the crankarm-safety device just barely fit into the crank axle hole. I re-torqued everything and the clearance from the chainring to the seatstay is now what I consider acceptable. I ordered a set (front and back) of Avid shorty ultimates for my commuter Trek 720 Multi-Track and I'll replace the Shimano CX70 cantilevers on the there now and use the CX70s on the 700. The only non-Shimano part on the 700 will be the SRAM 10s 11-36 cassette (which may make it's way to the commuter bike if I ever upgrade it's drivetrain.)

I installed the Origin8 cable stop on the front fork to replace the old headset mounted cable stop. Using the quil-to-threadless adapter and a flat stem resulted in the old cable stop not being usable due to clearance with the stem.

I also ordered some paint protection clear vinyl to protect the powdercoat on the bike. I'll put some on the driveside chainstay, the driveside BB shell (to protect it when the chain is taken off the chainrings for service,) and the head tube sides to protect it where the cables often rub. I'll cut out some templates, transfer those to the vinyl, cut it and lay the vinyl on the bike.

I also bought a Jagwire Road Pro brake and shift cable kit (in black of course.) This will go on with the Tiagra SIS shifters.

I still need some bar tape and bar end plugs. After I get those I'll have everything I need except a few dry days so I can get out ant test this thing on the trails around town.

I put a set of Black Ops pedals on the 700. They spent a few weeks on my Cannondale M500 and then a few days on my 720M-T. My wife bought me a set of purple Race Face Chesters for the 720 so the Black Ops pedals found a new home.

I think I can thank @ColonelSanders for that tip a few months back.

Also picked up a Specialized 'Headset Spacer Mount' and 'Elite Headlight' for a clean integrated look. I have the equivalent for the rear as well (with a Specialized SWAT mount for the saddle). These are "be seen" rather than "to see" lights but I have other, far more powerful lights front and rear should I need more lumens.

I am genuinely happy that the Knog bell is to your liking, but I can't help but feel I jumped the gun with the Oi, where I just assumed that Knog would do a good job, as they were a company with established products that were often well reviewed.

But a lot of people have said that the Oi's ring isn't loud enough to be effective in many circumstances.
