Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Right, the wheel is locked to the pole. If you unbolt that wheel, slide the wheel out of the dropouts, then lift the frame up I bet you could wedge the lock and get the frame off.

Why didn't he just throw the lock around the seat tube, the rear wheel, and use the fence one post up towards the front?

LOL I was thinking that I might just do that actually. I am not getting it I guess. I need to stop commenting on the lock job pictures because I am like 0/5 so far.

either the pole or the wheel would have to go through the dt/seatstay/chainstay triangle

This. but if I'm in a rush or the post I want to lock against is too wide the rear wheel through the triangle is the best and most convenient method. the crappy thing is though if you're in an urban area people are probably gunna monkey with your **** anyway. I came back to my bike and some guy was wiggling it around in the bike rack and took off as he saw me walking toward my bike, who know how many times that's happened when I wasn't around.

Where is that? Park Ave looking southeast from like 51? The buildings in the distance look too old though. Or is it the west side?

Maybe its time for a trip back to remind myself why I left.

It's the west side of lower Manhattan, facing southeast.

The city is exciting and vibrant, and obviously something of a fixed gear mecca (if such a thing or place even exists anymore -- one might credibly argue that fixed gear as a cultural phenomenon is passé), but the rides where you are now look to be unparalleled based on my observation. I think it comes down to what one values and prioritizes in life.

I believe these are referred to affectionately as "nerd bars" in some circles:

Melting or just nicely broken in? Here's one with an alleged 80,000 miles put on it:

Ah, it just needs to be laced and it will be as good as new.

Impressive commitment, but that can't possibly be comfortable.

Nasty. Why would you spend the $$$ for a nice Brooks Professional and then neglect it like that? Here's my 1967 Professional with who knows how many miles on it:
