Not sure of the name of this place....seems pretty old though. I went in to look for a plaque dedicated to those responsible for destroying Raleigh along with most of British manufacturing industry.
Nor luck here either. There were lots down this road.

I never HEARD of that. Amazing. We get rainbows rarely here because of the way weather moves through here. They are a treat for us. The most memorable one was the evening on the day that Harold Arlen died. Everyone in NYC saw it. Arlen wrote the song "Somewhere Over The Rainbow."

A change from yesterday’s gravel became today’s easy paved. More later on Trail of the Coeur d’Alene from Plummer. Gotta drive home now.
edit: The trailhead at Plummer, ID has parking, restrooms, and a memorial to tribal members who died serving the US military. The first 5 miles is a 3% grade down to lake level; it is an opportunity to find your most aero position while not going so fast as to be nail-biting. Then the bridge over the lake and a perfectly flat trail following lakes or marshes. I did 25 miles before turning around. I would like to come back for a weekend dedicated to riding all the rest of it toward Montana. Covering the Idaho mountains at railroad grades on paved bike trail would be a worthy trip.
Long shadows make me tall, move over Wilt the Stilt.

Just a quick 6.75 mile ride around the neighborhood, at a gentle 14.5 mph....
It was just a late after dinner ride on my C&V '85 Fuji and the temp was STILL 90°F here in Richmond, VA... I about died in the heat and humidity, so that's a prime reason why I did a short quick ride. I don't know about you, but it's just too darn hot outside!!!

Just a 18 mile ride this morning but I took lots of pictures. I rode over to a park and picked up one of the MUPs that run through Fort Wayne, there is over 100 miles of bike trails but they don't connect. The MUP leads down to the IPFW campus and near the Allen County Memorial Coliseum.
Allen County Coliseum, Built as a War memorial and dedicated in 1952.
F84F Thunderstreak and follow on development of the Thunderjet
A beautiful bridge on the MUP
Battleship Indiana memorial
I even did a little gravel grinding, albiet only about 100 yards

Catching up from a little over a week ago...I haven't ridden yet this week, hopefully I'll be able to sneak one in tonight.
21st:
22nd:
I've dropped the stem a bit on the last few rides, time for some cable management once the new stack is set.
I found this guy while heading downhill, turned around to make sure he was all set.
Party beverages for this past weekend.

Took a ride out to China Camp/San Rafael today. The smoke from the Yolo fire left an antique haze to my shot. Stopped by Trips-for-Kids bike shop and bought a 28.6 front clamp for my Waterford project and a Sea Otter flagged shirt for our Fourth group ride. They had some nice donated bikes for sale. 74' Paramount, Dean road bike, Waterford 1100 and a Pogliaghi frame in great condition.

I didn't go anywhere exotic, but I rode along the Hudson River farther up than I usually go, to see my wife perform in a piano recital. The route was hilly, and the weather was HOT. And people thought I was nuts, but I was just fine. I didn't even know I was sweating profusely until I stopped.

Yesterday, my wife and I rode the Tour De Kingston. Kingston is a small city in New York's Hudson River Valley. In fact, centuries ago, it was New York's first capital. ... I was about to invite Ellen to ride with us when she said declaratorily, "I'm riding with you folks!" So that was agreed.
Ellen is, by my calculations, about 76 years old. She told me she graduated from college in the year they opened the Verrazano Narrows Bridge in NYC, and it opened in 1966, so there is the arithmetic. She is quite a splendid athlete. She rides up hills slowly, but she boasts she never walks up hills. Her friends tease her about her old bike, but I observe that she is melded to it, and it would be a mistake to replace it. It's a 1978 Trek 520. It's been in a crash, which explains the replacement fork, the bent frame, and the front caliper brake. Thank goodness we rode with her, because the ride was a challenge for Carol, and without Ellen's company and constant joking, Carol's morale might have flagged. Ellen waited for us at the tops of hills. I rode at Carol's pace.
The route was gorgeous, and I'm sorry I only took one shot. It's not apparent, but there are the Catskill mountains on the left of the road. We often had views like this, with mountains on one side and plains on the other. We also rode along the beautiful Rondout Creek, a tributary to the Hudson River. We learned two routes between our house and Kingston, which is nice, because we didn't know of bike friendly routes before.
The roads in the area are generally scenic, and they have no shoulders whatsoever. You might think this causes problems, but drivers are terrific. They wait until it is safe to pass and generally don't pass too closely. There was one who passed too closely while there was an oncoming car, and a couple of times, we signaled to a driver behind us to wait until there was no oncoming traffic. But we had no real hassles, no close buzzing, and no honking.
You see Carol ahead of me and Ellen ahead of her.
At the end, there was a barbecue and a raffle for lots of nice prizes. Carol won a multi-tool. Here is our podium shot, with Ellen wearing orange and Carol wearing purple.

I used to go up into that area cycling back when I was in high school and college. Poor kids from NY City could afford nothing more. I made my vacation money working in a local mom & pop grocery store. My Dad would drop us off in Nyack and we'd ride north on W9 past West Point towards Kingston. From there we'd head west and ride to Phoenicia, then turn south and set up a camp at Woodland Valley Camp Ground. Getting the camping gear off the bikes was a treat. We'd stay for a week and cycle the surrounding area (hilly!) and hike the trails. It was fun!
Today, again, I rode the bike path along the Pacific Coast - Torrance, Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach, El Porto, El Segundo, Playa del Rey and Marina del Rey . I rode the same bike with the same saddle I used for the last of those Kingston, NY rides, a Bob Jackson. It is my oldest and best friend.

I got out early on Saturday hoping to beat the heat. When on Long Island (for the summer) I have two basic loops, one of which is around 100 - 115 miles (depending on the details), the other about 60. I did the shorter route on Saturday.
I think this link will take you to a rather nice video:

And let's not forget The Big Duck, because this is Long Island, after all:

@Bad Lag, I invite you to put your location in your profile.
I'm thinking of taking a few days off this summer to do a ride like that. The Hudson Valley is lovely in so many ways. But getting between NYC and either Putnam County or Orange county requires some serious hill climbing. I've researched it a lot, and there is no getting around it.

Really pleased with a swift 14.2 mile ride I took on my Frejus Tour de France this evening after work. Went out towards Traver on a little road I'd actually never gone all the way down, despite it being only a couple of miles from my home. It ends by a looming Foster Farms facility beside freeway 99 and the railroad, where there was a long train bumping along as I approached for a U-turn. On the way back I tucked in and managed to do 4.2 miles in 10 minutes, averaging 25 miles per hour for that little sprint!
It felt great despite only being out for a couple of rides in the last three weeks. I also worked a ten hour shift standing on my feet all day prior to the ride.

Test & Adjustment Rides `Round the `Hood
This is a work-in-process, Raleigh/Carlton Super Course 3-speed Conversion. Not as impressive sounding as Bianchigirll's ride (Beautiful bike, btw..), but I think it's turning out pretty nice. It is humid as a rain forest here today, and just as hot. So I didn't put on too many miles.

My LBS had a ride today. The after ride spread of waffles, bacon, eggs, fruit, and mimosas provided by Salsa.
In honor of the sponsorship my GF rode her LaRaza equipped with her birthday wheels & tires.
I hate group rides. I hate helmets.
I did wear my finest kit.
My son brought his fast non vintage bike.
The drop bar Trek on the left is mine too. Loaned to a fellow for this ride.

Used my 1989 Schwinn Traveler yesterday to do the only climb of any significant height in my area called Williamsburg Hill and some dirt paths for some additional fun!
