Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Aw, Dang It!!!

I just had the Bianchi 928 up on the stand, checking the shifting (some gears sounded 'loud' on yesterday's ride, but shifting was fine), and I noticed what looked like cracks radiating from one of the spoke holes. Upon further investigation, these cracks are present on at least 10 of 27 spoke holes (2006 Fulcrum Racing 5's, so 27 spoke rears).

Well, nuts! I mean, obviously the rim is shot! But so far the hub has been fine. And the front is fine, as well. No hint of cracking. BUT it's not like I'll find a 27 hole rim to lace to this hub!

I guess this means I'm in the market for a new wheelset, something strong but light and costing under $500. Any suggestions?

Son of a gun. Who'd have thought? I guess you really CAN find anything on the internet! Thanks!!

That's $150 with shipping, then I need to have them built up ('cause I don't have a truing stand or any skill), and probably ought to use all new spokes and nipples.

I found NEW Fulcrum Racing 5 wheelsets on PBK for $247......

Hmmmmmmmmm.............

You can tape them together and move the spokes from one rim to the other. You would still have to true it of course.
