Sold a bike...Buy a Powertap..
Well I'm making the plunge...
After reading all this talk about training with Power I thought it was about time I hopped on board...Let see how loud it yells at me that I suck
Actually I am really interested in seeing what this to my training and what type of gains I can make.
My buddy/psuedo coach has been harping on me to get one for a while.
Over the winter I've been using my KK with a speedo to keep a rough track on gains. BTW anyone know how accurate the numbers the KK formula give in comparison to a real power meter...

It will be my first real attempt at this...
Joined my local club last year did a bunch of weekly TT's and a couple road races. Thought I'd give the provincial stuff a go....

KK's website has a computer that gives you power readouts with one of their trainers by the way.
F that. Get a Powertap, you'll have power readings on the road and on the trainer. Very happy with the Ptap and the company's support.

Good luck with it.
I bought a powertap last fall. I am now selling it.
I ride for enjoyment - I am just interested in accumulating, and even trying, to sort through that much data.
It's an impressive tool, just not for me.

i prefer the floyd lands way of training.
" I know what I’ve done in the past to train, so I know what I’m doing. Also, I’m riding now more for my own satisfaction than anything else, so I prefer to just go ride. If I want to go hard, I can go hard. If I want to stop at a 7-11 for a Snickers bar, I can do that. I’m like a 12-year-old kid out there on my bike. I know it’s unconventional, but I’m motivated enough to train hard a certain amount. I just prefer to be the one telling myself what to do.
I don’t even have a power meter or computer. There are no screens on my bike at all. And training is more fun than it’s ever been. I’m looking at the scenery, taking things in. I missed a lot looking at screens while I was out riding in the past."

That statement is at odds with the fact that Floyd had a Powertap on his bike for that epic Tour de France solo breakaway stage (right before he flunked the dope controls and was DQ'd). Or is that what he said quite recently?

+1 on PTap. You'll spend a few months just gathering data on various setups, positions and rides. My advice is to put it on and just ride a lot. Looking at the data is fun at first because it's new. What will make a bigger difference is months down the road you can see your trends, training method effectiveness and for some of us how old and slow we are. JK. Enjoy!

Well the deal is done...
Sent the money to Psimet last night for a pair of PT's, one for myself and one for my wife.
We'll be picking them up in March when we head to Georgia for some spring time training.
We've been both using psuedo power this winter, her Elite trainer calcs it and I've got a chart that relates wattage to speed taped to my top tube. We both have noticed a difference since using these numbers instead of HR for training. Also, having a coach that provides structured workouts is really helping too.
Of course the proof will come in the spring when we are actually riding with other riders to gauge our performance.
