McKenzie Pass news

ODOT just released a single lane is now open. I expect it's a bit dicey to ride the pass this weekend, but it should be in prime condition soon!

What a great shortcut that would be!. Riders will cross Cascades during the night and support vehicles couldn't follow. Would riders see black ice at 2:00 am? I wouldn't :-D

I agree, wait a couple weeks to do this ride, plenty of time before gates open.

The Trans Am Bike Race is self-supported. There are no support vehicles.

Wow! I was thinking RAM too. Is it a set route? How funny they opened 242 just in time! If I was racing across America intent on the best time possible, I'd only take 242 if it was part of the route.

fietsbob - Aren't you in Astoria? Did you get to watch the start?

Riders (not sure how many)in Transam did go over McKenzie pass in the middle of the night. Eugene rider, Rob English is currently (as of last night in Baker City) in 2nd place. English rolled into the Eugene area in 1st place on day one, like 267 miles from start, jeeeez!

McKenzie Pass at 3:00 am? OK going up, going down in the dark after 350 miles of riding with possibility of ice? Whaaaaaat?
