At a garage sale a few years back. The seller "warned" me that it was no longer legal for competition. Frame has a few spots of light surface rust, but nothing to get in a twist about. Picked a Campy Omega Wheelset with Bullseye hubs at the same sale for $10. Staight, stong, and true.

I liberated a Schwinn Prelude from the pawn shop today. Whether it's a keeper or a flipper hasn't yet been determined.



A little rust near the head lug. Looks like surface rust only, no bends in the tubes.

Give that bike a good try. I have a Schwinn Prelude I'll eventually sell. I've taken it for test rides, and it's very impressive. Very impressive.

out of curiosity, are the stem shifters on the Prelude original? Wouldnt imagine so.

No I don't think they're original. Specs say indexed downtube shifters. If anyone has DT shifters for braze-ons for a 6-speed Shimano S.I.S. that you wouldn't mind parting with, I might want to talk to you...

I gotta take pictures of my Prelude. The paint on mine is badly damaged, and I need to get advice on what to do with it to get it ready for sale.

KonAaron Snake was here last weekend, and we test-rode a bunch of bikes from my fleet. I had forgotten how the Prelude rides, so we were both blown away. It's a sleeper of a bike. It doesn't all that special, but it is.

Nice one Doohickie! Those stem shifters look a lot like an economy replacement shifter set sold by J&B Importers. Shouldn't be too hard to find a set of those SIS shifters, what with so many bikes being parted out these days. In other news, that stem seems really long.

The Tenax Schwinns were always underrated IMHO. I have owned a Super, Sport, Passage (stiil have), Tempo and Prelude. They all ride great.

What is the order of the lineup of these bikes?

Here's the 1987 lineup. The order was Circuit (21 lb.), Super Sport (22), Tempo (22), Prelude (24). There was also a Tenax Madison at 19 and Voyageur at 24 lb.

I just noticed there are some Shimano 600 DT shifters in the C&V Sales thread that just popped up for $14. Might be worth checking out for your Prelude.

Two feet further south and I would have needed an ice pick to rescue this from the St Lawrence River. I think it was stolen and abandoned, so I wasn't sure if I should take it, but after a month, it was still there, minus the wheels, so I stopped by after work on my bike and threw it over my shoulder and took it home. Someone had already taken the wheels, but that's a minor detail.

It's a Favorit Rapido, by the serial#, a'74. The right crank is a bit wobbly, the BB has a mild clunk, and the steering is quite crunchy. The brakes have strong springs but cheap levers and the derailleur and shifter seem to work nicely. All the parts except the derailleur are labelled "Favorit". I thought it might make a decent SS conversion. There's a sporting goods store closing here, and I can get a wheelset with tires and tubes for not a lot of money. I would have to go elsewhere for a freewheel and likely the other drive train parts. A lot of stuff has been picked over pretty well.

I don't want to put a lot of cash into it, so I will buy parts that I can use if a better frame shows up and replace as little as possible. Give it a paint job and make it my beater/errand bike. The seat tube is 57mm, possibly a bit big for me, but I think that with a low profile saddle and 155-160mm cranks I can make it work.
