Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Both were implemented as cost-cutting measures.

Right?! It's just enough of a deviation from the norm that it's really attractive. Plus it is in the aggresive hardtail-AM style, which I want when I can afford an expensive mountain bike.

The sharp angles remind me of the twin spars on motorcycle frames where the engine is suspended only from above rather than cradled from below. It has the serious "load bearing structural member" look to it. Just cobby and tough. It's like a tool rather than a toy. Mean lookin'.

I made some mods to my single speed Saturday and rode it around in the cold. Even in the cold, it was fantastic!

Taken from the first post in this thread:

The rules:

-Not your own bike, if someone was to put it in there
-Photos are to be work safe.
-If it looks jackass worthy it is not to be put in this thread.

That is a weird example because it's a cruiser with bigger wheels. On a 20" wheel BMX I would assume a front end like that was for extra clearance for your foot while doing foot stop tail-whips or some other flatland trick.

Unfortunately you can't ride the bike more than 1 mile before replacing your drivetrain ; )

I don't understand weight weenieism these days because it is so extreme that the bike becomes pretty useless at that point or is just a show weight. Delicate and dainty bikes just don't seem useful. I am all for really light bikes don't get me wrong but there is a point of diminishing returns. Though some people like Fabrage eggs on wheels?

I thought the same thing but in this case the bike is 9 Lb and the guy rides it regularly.

This particular bike isn't for show bike or a lab experiment. He has over 40k miles on it and seems to be a decent engineer, makes his own carbon parts in some cases.

Seems like this is the real deal.
