Do pre-1980 28h clincher road rims exist?
Hi there,
I have a growing addiction to lace torpedo coaster brake hubs on road rims for my city bikes. So much fun, love riding them, love servicing them, love the look when all is still from the same era. However, how back in the uk they are hard to come by. Ive found a bulk purchase of my favourite, the Duomatic's, all 28 holes.
It seems, that 28h pre-1980 road rims are pretty rare for tubular rims, and possibly non-existent for clinchers? It already feels pretty 'wild' lacing an old folding bike hub onto beautiful track frames, bringing newer rims into it is just too far, so Im wondering whether the rims id be searching for exist, before I make the investment.

I have never seen one. I had a beautiful Zeus high flange hub in my parts bin for twenty years. during which i never found a 28h rim to lace it to.
My guess is they were never common, and always fragile. A lot rarer now.

I seem to recall that in the 70s the lightest tubular rims came in 28 hole
Fiamme yellow label and Super Champion Medaille de Or
I can't recall any 28 hole clinchers. the 2 models I mention were so light
and fraigle I don't think any survived

Bike Warehouse wasn't listing anything other than 36 holes, or more, for clinchers...
Same thing for Cyclo-Pedia....

I have a 24 spoke rear Track wheel, I now have a 24 hole hub... have not found the matching fiamme yellow in a 24.
my pursuit wheels are 28’s I built them then discovered a set of Saavadra 28 aero rims...

Been looking for 28h and there are a decent number on eBay from the 80s which seems fairly old to me, or at least older than I care to use, can't recall how many were tubular
