IOC to Retest Samples - Exclude Cycling from future Olympics?
Not sure if you guys saw this, but yesterday the IOC announced that Cycling may be kicked out of the Olympics, unless they could clean up the doping. Well now they have reversed course on that. Apparently the UCI must have pointed out to them that the IOC doesn't even test for CERA, and now the IOC has decided they should start. Suddenly cycling is seen to be at the fore front of testing by the IOC, a stark contrast to yesterday's statements. More here :

Well they are going to retest everyone, so track is included. I do think its funny how they can single out cycling for being the sport that they are going to eliminate. Track and Weight Lifting can rest easy I suppose.
Here is the quote today,
And here is yesterday L
Here is the quote today,
In a statement Wednesday, Moreau said, "The IOC will continue to support the UCI — and any other international federation — as long as it is deploying meaningful and credible means and efforts to fight against doping."
If the entire sport doesn't pull together to improve the situation, "then you have to consider giving men's road cycling a pause" from Olympic participation, Bach told The Associated Press in a telephone interview.

Does the IOC think that catching the guys who are on the stuff is a bad thing?
It seems as though they care more about getting good press than running a clean games while helping to eliminate the problem.

That is what I am talking about...every time there is a cycling positive (or non-negative I suppose is the proper term) it hits the news and cycling gets this black mark. But you hardly hear about the other positives. I was watching the Olympics and they didn't say a word about the 7 or 8 positives in a bunch of different sports. I did hear about the one in cycling but that's it. Yea I know we all hear about the cycling positives because we are on here and on cyclingnews.com etc but I have seen it on ESPN and they could give a rats ass about cycling any other time.

If there's no cycling in the Olympics, they'd better round up all of the XC skiers, take them out behind the barn and shoot them...

The comments by the IOC are obviously just very ignorant. They made those same comments following the positive test of Maria Isabel Moreno right before the games started. I think their is just a lack of understanding on their part at how much more seriously this sport takes doping than other sports. More positive tests don't make the sport dirtier, it actually could be the exact opposite.
I'd hate to see cycling eliminated from the Olympics, especially now that I have discovered the Madison event. Man is that a big cluster to watch. Saw that via NBC streaming this year and had no idea wtf was going on.

Exactly. They really need to keep their eye on the ball. And Chinese birth certificate authorities. Then again, perhaps, just maybe, it'll be a catalyst.

The doping in Track and Field and Weightlifting is much different because it's all about gaining explosive mass and quick recovery in training. You really can't hide it, and even some legal substances are banned (maybe not for weightlifting). It really boggles my mind how many times sprinters are found with unnatural levels of testosterone in their blood, as if the last guy hitting fenasol or THG was any different.
The popular perception with cycling is that it is much more deceptive, and the controversies that surround the issue don't help. I'd hate to see cycling leave the Olympics, this year was the first time I saw the event and it was pretty exciting.
Marion Jones was a huge hit to sprinting, and Justin Gaitlin's case likely changed the way that sponsors chose their coaches.
I do welcome the loss of Baseball. Finally.

Does anybody remember when sprinters didn't look like running backs or wide receivers?

Nothing the IOC does is surprising and very little of it fair. The Olympic movement was an Utopian dream taken advantage of by power hungry manipulators that attempt only to placate fans of minor sports while using the genuine good will of the movement to claw for more power.

Probably just a convenient excuse to finally drop cycling for more x-games style events. They've been getting rid of track cycling events for years to add in bmx and others. Hooray for the US 2012 extreme skateboarding team...
