Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Well, we COULD eliminate it if you wanted to live in an aseptic bubble the rest of your life. People with no immune system rarely suffer from autoimmune disease. Cancer and infectious disease, however.......

If I've learned one thing from working in Cancer the last dozen years, it's that our bodies are not some finely tuned machine, but rather an elaborate jury rig to get us to the point of having adult children before Evolution would just as soon we piss off and die already. When everything is working right, it's balanced on a knife edge between dying from a simple skin infection and your immune system attacking you.

Excellent post. I never thought of it that way. Of course, we chose to not have kids, so I wonder what part of evolution we pissed off?

If you've noticed a similar phenomenon in other contexts, I agree it doesn't sound like it's your trainer setup. I wonder if there's an app that will track your internet speed/connectivity over time?

I haven't noticed anything like that on Zwift, using a similar set up - Kickr Snap, laptop + monitor, and iPhone with Zwift Companion ap running. I did notice how hard it is to chase back on to groups - I tried a couple times U-turning and chasing down a group ride and they just vanished.

Clearly, one aspect of the Zwift game is that the benefits of the draft are better in game than in reality. I accept that but it's annoying that to get dropped from a medium paced group means it's very hard to get back with them.

One more question. I assume you have a coax line from the FIOS entry to your router. Does that line have a coax splitter in it anywhere? It is possible that an open end of splitter (not connected to anything) could accept interference and cause an issue.

OK, two;
Have you watched the lights on your router to see if the actual connection goes bad during one of these glitches? Lights may go off or change color? if not then it could be interference from something else in the house running (emitting) at the wireless frequency. Do you have the option to change from 2.4 to 5 GHz? (802.11n or 802.11ac)

Yes the coax line does have a splitter in it. I can probably try to get rid of the splitter but I am not optimistic that's the cause.

Yes, when I was trying to figure this problem out a couple years ago I would watch the router carefully. The lights on the router stay on. The wifi icon on devices stays on. So it seems the connection from devices to router and router to FIOS are all ok, but the FIOS signal is just "freezing" for a second at random intervals but roughly 3-4 times/hour. Sometimes more, sometimes less. Seems to be a poisson process.

If one more patient asks me how to "boost" their immune system I think I will burst.

They are also already asking to be put on the "list" for COVID19 vaccine. There is no list. Sigh.

There are drugs that suppress immune response, like for people who receive transplants. For obvious reasons, immunosuppressive drugs have to be balanced.

I realize it's no picnic for people who suffer from autoimmune and inflammatory disease. I understand your frustration. My point is that it's a really complex problem, because the immune system is really, really complicated.

Checkpoint inhibitors FTW! That stuff seems to cause half of what our consult service deals with nowadays.

People want to believe there's someone in charge. The idea that it's all being done ad hoc is too scary.

Snow just started. Current model says expect 13 inches.

My wife put her car in the garage yesterday in advance of the snow and sent me a pic. I replied, “nice fit!”

I don’t think she appreciated my wit as much as I did. Sad.

Seems like they like zinc the most these days. As I said a few days ago, I am not a fan of supplements but patients are eager to do something to give them an edge. I tell them to eat lots of fruits/veggies/nuts, avoid too many carbs and processed foods, get plenty of exercise and some sun exposure but they don’t listen. Easier to get food from WaWa and a fix at the GNC

In addition to following this advice they should also stop worrying about it for an added 'boost'

In post #9177 you implied my ailment would end if I went into a bubble. Incorrect.

How do I unboost my immune system? #Variety

By the way, our governor simply put the first (small) vaccine shipment in storage, because he couldn't decide who should get it. I'm not kidding. Yes, things are going great here.
