I did a 20 mile ride yesterday, and got the halfway point in sight for visiting the St. Louis Arch. It was a nice peaceful day.

Chain of Rocks Bridge, the halfway point for my eventual adventure to the St. Louis Arch. Confluence trail turns into the levee road, and goes from asphalt to gravel. Yuck.

And here is the State Lewis & Clark Historical site. Camp River Dubois.

I never tire of the Mississippi (I hope I got all the s's and p's in the right spots!) Headwind was brutal on the way out, but the tailwind sure was nice on the way back. It took 1.5 hours to get from home to the other side of the Clark Bridge, and only 30 minutes to get back home.

Here's another pix of Benton Crossing Road ... looking in the other direction. Heading up there this weekend to do a bit of riding, fishing and skiing. Maybe I'll dig up that Popeil Pocket Fisherman.

There is something about the look of an open road ... suggested possibilities.

Allegheny Mountains in western Pennsylvania. You can get lost in these hills for hours at a time.

Not sure I want to recommend Station Square Drive in Pittsburgh at dusk for a regular ride. But it did yield a nice shot of downtown Pittsburgh. I have to say that I'd need to rethink my current riding style if I lived and had to cycle in this city.

A little 'leftover' from the 2013 Tour of California bike race. This was on the roadway leading up to the finish of stage two at the Palm Springs Tramway. A 3.6 mile climb , 9% average grade, after cycling 121 miles the +100F temps.

On today's (Memorial Day, May 27, 2013) ride, the goal was to ride up the hill on Federal Twist Road, one of the more challenging local hills. It's about a 20 mile ride to get there. I was almost there and then this:

The bridge was out. Just in case you can't tell it's a bridge, here's a side view. Once you cross the bridge, you start uphill and shortly hit Federal Twist, turn right and keep going uphill.

Will have to figure a new route to Federal Twist for next week's ride. On the way back I stopped at an ice cream stand and saw this:

Cool.....I mean hot, real hot.
The steepest part was 22 deg and temps were said to be 130 as reflected off the hotmix paving.
Colombian was tough!!!

Not even close. First visual clue, tires are way too wide.

I did see a Bugatti Type 37 on a ride once; the real thing. Very close to a Type 35 but with a 4 cyl. engine. Sweet though!

When I was on a scrubbing line in a car wash decades ago, Amarillo Slim (The former poker champ) came by at lunch in a for-real Auburn Boat Tailed Roadster and wanted it detailed. Real blown flathead inline 8 and real steel fenders....the works. Said he'd just won it in a poker game.

Kit car conversion of a VW beetle. Look at the front axle, twin tube VW set up. Actually a nicely done fun looking ride.

Yeah I glanced quickly at my break time but not enlarged.
