Phil Wenneck: You're not really wearing that are you?
Alan Garner: Wearing what?
Phil Wenneck: The man purse. You actually gonna wear that or are you just ****in' with me?
Alan Garner: It's where I keep all my things. Get a lot of compliments on this. Plus it's not a purse, it's called a satchel. Indiana Jones wears one.
Phil Wenneck: So does Joy Behar

I don't need 12 of the beer I drink
Never thought of that. Good call.
Nope. Eating well.
I use Look Delta cleats. Still slick, but slow steps make it safe.
That bag is better than mine. I now have a reason to use that stupid BBB coupon I get in the mail every week.

i have to get one of these superbags. I once bought some chinese takeaway food and i held the 2 bags on either side of the handlebars but they kept swinging and getting caught on the spokes and tearing a little bit each time. Eventually, they both just fell apart. Noodles all over the ground. I shed a tear.

Shopping bags
In a pinch, you can use the cheap cloth shopping bags that sell for a dollar at Walmart and target. Stick your arms through the handles so the bag is across your back.

nobody here wants to throw a rack and panniers on their road bike eh?
My dad rides a Trek Pilot 2.1, with a light duty rack, and trunk bag. I could see that as being a pretty good way to go. As for the light duty bags I think the OP's idea is a great way to re-use things that are already around most of our houses. I have one packed up inside each of my Panniers just in case I need more storage I can throw one on my back, and strap the second to the top of my rack. (My bike naked is at least twice as heavy as most the bikes here )
