Bike Questions

So I have this Razor Kick Scooter, it's called the A5 Lux -- I could go about 10 miles on it, (till I gained the last 20 lbs) then it was quite hard to walk in the evening after a ride. Additionally, my feet were the first to go out when riding the scooter, -- I'm wondering if it will be any different on a bike? Will I get really uncomfortable from the seat? I weigh 320 lbs and am wondering if I could travel further on a bike, even though it weighs significantly more for pushing up hill, my feet shouldn't get as tired because there is a seat and I'm alternating feet when pedaling versus kicking. I'm wondering what type of bike to get, If I remember correctly, I was told to get a 26" hard tail mountain bike? does this sound right? Was he talking frame or wheel height? He mentioned used, -- but I'm really lost when it comes to the world of bikes and don't know.

So again I'm 320 lbs, 6 ft exact. have about 2 miles of commute up a nasty incline hill and then about another 3 and then 5 miles back, so making around 10-15 miles in total is what i'd like to ride...
