Elemnt Strava max speed wrong

I recently got Elemnt and have it upload to Strava and RidewithGPS. I noticed on my last ride my max speed on both Elemnt and Ridewith GPS was 16.8, but Strava recorded it as 23. Doesn't Strava just import the data from Elemnt or is there other data crunching going on?

As Mark Twain said, “A man with one watch knows what time it is; a man with two watches is never quite sure.”

lol

Well, in my case I'm quite sure as I know I didn't get anywhere near 23 MPH.

I think strava may only use the GPS data. Do you have a separate speed sensor?

Yes I use Wahoo wheel sensor and Elemnt uses wheel circumference to calculate distance/speed.

Which if Strava ignores the speed sensor in the FIT data and just uses the GPS data that would be why the numbers don't match. I believe that is what is happening.

Strava recalculates the summary data. These types of discrepancies are common. My Garmin thinks I hit about 45 mph coming down from Barlow Pass, Strava thinks I got to 55 mph. Without a speed sensor, I have no way of knowing which was closer to the truth.

Besides speed, Strava has a tendency to screw up distance as well. I've had Strava short my rides by as much as several miles. I did a 104 mile ride last year and Strava marked it as 99.6 miles. I just don't pay much attention to it as I also have my rides stored on a local, more accurate database on my phone and iPad.
