How do you compare riding electric bike without motor assist with your road bike? is there a significant loss in speed? what is the difference in weight between Felt and Specialized? Which bike do you use more often?

I ride a Trek Madone 3.1 full carbon with a mix of SRAM Force and Red componetry. Fulcrum Racing 4 wheelset and Conti GP5000 23's. A Garmin Edge 1030 with Garmin Vivoactive 3 watch and off to the asphalt jungle.

I'm 54, and turn 55 this year. If it weren't for cycling I probably wouldn't be in very good health due to a few USAF related service issues, but lucky for me, biking is still possible and I'm still able to have a whole lot of fun with it. I lead day rides for my club...big rides.

This Cervelo R5 is my standard platform, but also have a few others.

I turn 60 later this year so I bought a Cervelo R5 last month as an early gift to myself . Previously for the past 35 years I was riding a custom built racing bike where I had spent $400 for a Campy SR groupset and laced up the wheels (Ambrosio Synthesis Durex).

This has been my ride for the last 8 years, a Trek Domane 6.2 Project 1 with Ultegra Di2. I’m actually thinking of the new Domane SLR 9 with Dura Ace Di2. At 62, it’ll be my last road bike.

I bought this Jeunet 12 new in '77 for $400, and have over 100,000 miles on it now. To ride no-hands, I've always had to lean 'way over. Now, after seven seasons of riding it indoors, I finally noticed, while looking down, that the fork is bent to the side about an inch. I was so alarmed I did a full tear down and inspection, and it seems to have happened right at the factory, not in an accident. I think that they just tried to mix 'n' match warped frames and bad forks. So, now I finally know why it was $100 cheaper than any other new bike with similar components. I'd have scrapped it if I'd made it, but it really didn't bother me, at least until now. The frame was built by pinning the tubes in the lugs for brazing without a jig, and the fork crown seems to have been drilled well off plumb. Now that I see it, it is totally glaring, but I never looked for that before.



Leaving the '77 IHPSC speed championship on tour, with very close clearance on the panniers to reduce frontal area. I used a custom fiberglass sandwich carrier and bags, still with built-in lighting. The water bottles were in the lee of the handlebar bag, and covered in terrycloth to stay cool when wet. Extra water hung from the original front rack when needed, but the headlight had moved to the helmet.

The shifters are on the steering tube and offset for the right hand. So, when the steering is turned the center-pull cable locks the front brake to stand the bike against any curb or stone. Suntour shifters, stretched by hammering. The handlebars got a major spiffing up for this posting.

A Jeunet 12. Originally, it had integrated fenders, carriers, and lighting. (see generator mount) The two extra lugs on the down tube are a splice from being crushed against a parking pole. The rust is a theft deterrent, but it is fun to say it is to lighten things. Once, I did a beautiful paint job on it, and was nervous for two weeks until the lovely silver turned grey for some reason. Few of the original components remain, but I picked up those Bullseye pulleys from the maker in the first few miles. The remains of the front fender carry a tell-tale for wind direction. The card behind the speedo is a cadence chart.

One day, I went to drop it in the grass, and it did not drop. It had shown me it's toe-clip stand trick.

My Lynskey, with 700x28s (top) the day I finished the build, and 650bx42 (bottom), which is much more comfortable, and not much slower, since I can sail through turns with more confidence (I can lean it all the way over on those fat tires and still have traction).

Finished the bar tape today after building up a closeout 2019 Domane SLR frameset (price was too good to pass) Used parts off another frame. Shimano 9170 Di2 11spd, with 105 cranks (160mm) Zipp 650b wheels with Chris King hubs and Conti GP5000's, FIzik Antares R1, 4iii PM, Speedplays, Arundel, Tacx, Wahoo Bolt, Garmin Varia and Bontrager Ion round out the build. The IsoSpeed is so smooth.

Hey, thank you so much probe. you are right, had to take a pic before I took it home lol!!!!!!! Wife wasnt impressed when I wanted to keep it in the bedroom for a fewdays. Took it for a quick spin today, it just fits me you know? Perfect geometry for the kind of riding I want to do these days

My new Pinarello Dyodo. Picked it up last night and took it for its maiden ride this afternoon. I think I'm going to like this bike. Going to take awhile to get used to the SRAM doubletap, (have always had Shimano, except for my first bike which was Nuovo Record).

On and off over last 10 years have given the road bike another go but always come back to this. Now pretty much this bike on the roads and my Terratrike Rambler for paths. Only bikes I can ride for hours that I don’t have any pain.

Had her since the late 1990s. I was overseas in Japan and had it sent to a LBS for assembly. My brother helped me pick out components and bike fit - which worked out perfectly. This bike has had rides in Australia, Indonesia, Japan, and various other ports in the far east, and finally back in the U.S.A. in 2004.
