Howdy from Southwest IL

Hi All - Greetings from just outside St. Louis MO . . . Edwardsville IL. Been lurking and reading posts, been a member for a while, but never posted. Figured it's about time. 49 years old, been riding bikes forever since a little kid. Mountain, road, touring, you name it. The past few years I've been getting in to vintage road/touring bikes, looking for bargains, fixing and cleaning them up, riding them for a bit, then moving it on to the next one. Kind of dabbling in full restoration now. Nothing expensive like high end Italian, just stuff I can afford under $200 since it's a hobby. I ride often, 2 or 3 days a week weather permitting. In the area we have a great paved flat trail network, Madison County Transit (MCT) rails to trails. I'm on them all the time, if you've never heard of the network check out their website if you're within reasonable distance to St. Louis area. My current stable includes a 1984 Centurion Turbo, a 2018 Soma Stanyan, a 2019 Soma ES Smoothie, about a 1980/81 Raleigh mixte that I'm restoring/upgrading for fun (I needed a project to keep me occupied while stuck at home during the coronavirus pandemic), a Breezer Uptown 8 internal gear city bike, among a few others I'll probably be watching the classic & vintage forum the most as that's where my interest is now. Mostly vintage road/touring bikes from the 50's - 80's.

Trsnrtr - Thank you. I see you're from central IL. I'm always looking for suggestions for new places & trails to ride and explore within the area/region. You know of any good trails or networks to check out in you neck of the prairie?

Madison County Trails

I lived in O'Fallon, IL 2003/11. Was worth the drive or ride to the trails up and around Edwardsville. Loved the coffee shop. Loved riding the trails in Friday afternoon in the Winter in my Arctic getup. Many beautiful places. Ride out to Marine was generally a wind push out there, and a good workout back, into the wind. Nose on the front wheel, and a comfortable gear made it all good.
