Love those repair stands. There's an outdoor one out here in Los Gatos, CA with basic tools attached on near Vasona lake park that I have actually had to use once.

The bike coalition had gotten some installed along the Emeryville/Berkeley trail. I used it once when I had a flat near one. Next time out it had all the tools stolen and the pump vandalized. This one is indoors so it will probably only be available certain hours.

Nothing wonderfully great, just a great scene and ride. Been doing a 14 miler every day this week in 87* temp. Not epic rids just trying to get back in shape. Couple of new items, New used car, used Yakima rack and bike racks, Used bike frame with used parts. Put them all together and

Getting off topic there.
Took the Araya I just finished out for a short spin. Araya with matching Araya wheelset, Shimano 600 components all around. Ignore the pedals, they're temporaries.

Today was more of a bike themed adventure rather than a ride as I spent a fair amount of time off the bike. My plan was to start in Crozet, VA, ride up Jarman Gap road to Skyline Drive, 20 ish miles along Skyline to Simmons Gap, back down and ride along the foot of the Blue Ridge back to Crozet, a total of 50ish miles. Those two Gap roads are the local backdoor bike routes onto Skyline. The Jarman Gap climb is very stiff with about 1000 foot gain in a couple of miles. Once onto Skyline the climbing continues and it took me 2 hours to cover the first 15 miles. I had already made a huge dent in my water supply without a guaranteed source of refuel. I was worried about logging through the dense rollers in the afternoon valley heat with empty bottles so I decided to try a shortcut and go down Browns Gap road. Id never been on it except for the paved portion down in the valley. Surely they must connect? I started out and saw some ladies riding horses and asked them if the road went through. One lady confirmed but said it gets pretty rocky. With that ominous warning I continued.

Things got hairier and I started to ride with one foot unclipped hanging near the ground. Death grip on brakes thinking “well bonus upper body workout too”.
Definitely getting some poison ivy and/or ticks today.
By this point I’d been at it over 30 minutes dropping 1000+ feet of elevation and not really seeing any signs of civilization yet. Starting to get worried that the trail will peter out and I’ll have to slog my way back up the mountain. I had to climb over 3-4 fallen trees but thankfully found trail on the other side each time. Not too long after this pic I found a fresh pile of horse poo which made me feel better. Also saw what I think was bear scat, made me feel less better.
I don’t think balloon tires would even have helped here.

Man made object! By this point I was actually able to ride with both feet clipped in, but still requiring mostly death grip on the brakes.
Civilization!
This is in White Hall, road leading to Sugar Hollow Reservoir. From this point it was about 7 miles of stiff rollers through oppressive heat and headwind back to Crozet.
I was hoping for a beer, but no such luck, so had a donut and lemonade slushee at Chiles Peach Orchard. 35 miles, 4000 feet of climbing.

No pics, but I rode my 16-20 mile course from my home. It's boring anyway, but offers some climbing and not much traffic. What is it about Dutch bikes? They all just seem to want to GO. Rode the Gazelle with fresh Conti 5000 28mm. Great day for a ride.

Had 90s all of last week in Chicago. Got a break today with temps in the upper 70s. Traded the heat for strong NE winds. Rode 60 up north. Jerry Ortega sightings = 1
The wind roiled the lake, pushing waves well over 8 feet. Zero boats or beach goers. Note flooding in the parking area.

I rebuilt mrs non-fixie's Méral cockpit (shorter stem, shorter bars, new brake levers, thicker bar tape) and we went on a 70k test ride through a wooded area. About 10k in she decided she was happy with it, and took this picture.

Same route as yesterday, different bike. The Chorus crank (170) that was on there didn't look good to me. I was surprised to fine another Chorus crank set (172.5) with BB hanging on the board. Installed that one instead. It is the same crank set (172.5) as on the De Rosa but labeled with Chorus instead of Record. Is that "trickle down economy?"
Adjusted the HB up two clicks on the stem and adjusted RD&FD.
Both bikes have Vittoria Corsa G+ tires, clinchers (23mm) on the Pin and tubulars on the DR (22MM). Todays ride was with 130 psi in back and 125 in front. Will compare on next ride with the DR.
After replacing the Flite Ti on the DR with a Swallow and having the Pro on the Pin, there is very little difference in the saddle comfort. The Swallow isn't broken in yet.

etherhuffer I'm always the one riding steel. Usually with 10 miles to the end of the ride is when I catch up to everyone and finish with a hard sprint.
