HB. Look at it this way. You are varsity and the rest of these guys are junior varsity.

Nice ride today. Now my 80something year old neighbor is up on his roof working on his house. What a wild man.

The key to bagging KOMs is to create a bunch of obscure segments. A couple of years ago, we went to visit my aunt in the DR and I took my bike and created a bunch of segments in her area. I'm probably going to have those for awhile.

But there's no glory in those ones! My best moment was getting this one on the insanely fast early morning ride by starting near the back, getting 2nd in the sprint (my best result) on the fastest-on-record day. https://www.strava.com/segments/609552

I have a teammate that always takes mine, so I don't have many left It frustrates me he does that but I pretend it doesn't bother me (but I'm crying inside).

It doesn't help I only ride about 6 different courses, and only 1 isn't commonly ridden by cyclists.

I'm stoked on my Fiesta Island KOM - co-owned by teammate (in TTT) Kevin Festini. 31.2 MPH for 7:56 for 1 complete loop - 1st out of 300,000+ attempts from over 14,000 individuals!

That's a legit KOM. I even remember you posting about it back when you got it.

Got one last night. The in-town A-ride is about a 23mi loop segment around the city. The group can't really ever stay together or catch all the lights.

One night last year I was late arriving and rode solo and caught the group due to getting green lights. Bagged it.

In corona times, it's ideal time for a segment like that. Took a chance and did 2hrs of TT bike tempo last night and during the ride, I went over that route.

I upped my previous KOM by a whole mph, solo. I was freaking moving. The power and overall average speed don't do it justice either, as KOMs always accumulate time against your speed and against your power average. There was time waiting on a couple lights or signs and the obvious slowdowns since this is not closed course racing.

I think it's time to go after my 10mi PR sometime soon. Just need a non-windy day out in the flatlands.

There are only two KOMs I think about. One, I will never, ever get. So I don't even worry about it.

The other one, I only care because it is a sprint in my neighborhood. I didn't know it existed until a few months ago, when I happened to look at my ride on Strava - which I rarely do. I was surprised it was a segment. A few weeks ago, as I finished up a ride, I decided to give it a try and took it.

I'm with you guys. Over the winter I got invited to be a consultant to a new team in my old town. After the official meeting we all sat around and BS'd about life and bikes. The conversation drifted into KOM's and I was getting drilled about how I rode certain segments and whatnot. I told them that out of the 320+ KOM's I have, there's only 4 or 5 that I care about and would make an attempt to get back, and 2 of those aren't even in Oregon.

A game changer has been the radar. I donít have to worry as much about approaching cars so car give the TT bike a nice corner while pedaling in the tuck.

I really want to get my 8min TT power to 320w. With my good position and size, more than enough to bag segments. I can already do 320w for 8 on the roadie. Havenít tried in the TT. I should.

I grew a mustache because that seems to be what the racing crowd is up to. Everyone loves it, minus the wife...so it gets the chop tonight.

I'm kind of glad, as my facial hair grows straight out. It flutters in the wind during rides and has trapped small bugs in its bushiness. It's wild and unkempt...almost Roosevelty.

Men with mustaches creep my wife out, so, whenever I shave off my beard, I leave a mustache...for maybe an hour or 2.

A few years ago, I shaved the beard and left the mustache before picking my wife up to go meet friends at the bar. She was not happy with me. Had we passed a drug store, she would have made me stop to buy a razor to shave it off in the car. She didn't speak with me all night, other than to call me a f----- idiot and to tell me when we go home, I was going to shave that f------ thing off.

To be fair, I did look like a baseball player or pornstar from the 70s. Or worse.

My beard starts to curl after a half an inch so I may do a weeks growth and trim it. I always trim the neck. Being from San Francisco, growing a mustache would have gotten me unwanted attention....not that there's anything wrong with that....

It is unfortunate that she did not express her feelings about mustache. Ron Jeremy look alike?

My hair is now mostly a rats nest. Although, I may be faster. I was letting my beard grow for two or three days until my wife told me it made me look older and to get rid of it. No problem. Gone.

Mrs John gave me a haircut for this first time 2 weeks ago. It actually looks ok. I can't remember not having a mustache.

I've always been too mentally lazy to make changes, but my wife half jokingly said I should grow one (after the dude in Almost Famous, a pointless movie that she really loves for unknown reasons), so I did. She hasn't complained TOO much. Was already growing out my hair, and I think long hair and facial hair complement each other better than either individually. Short hair with a stache is too creepy-cop (tho almost-famous-guy is shaggy, not long), and long hair without facial hair is too skinny-metal-nerd, and I'm not skinny. People are always telling me I look like someone or other, usually some 70s musician lol. And now I can go several days without shaving before I start looking too scruffy with the neck hair and sh*t.

My friend Ron raced there on Team Detroit. Here he is in the lower right. He's almost 70 now and can still fold onto a top tube better than many.
