Tell me about the Kilo WT

I'm considering picking up a used Kilo WT, listed for sale locally. I've not had a chance to inspect it in person yet, but it looks good in the pictures.


Here are the pros and cons I'm aware of for that model generally:


+ Reynolds 520 tubing

+ Braze-ons/eyelets for racks and fenders, front and rear

+ Clearance for really big tires (if I ever decide I want to go that way)


- Kind of heavy

- Some of them use oddball 26.8mm seat post (but I'm reading that others take the common 27.2?)


I want a steel frame, 1-1/8" threadless fork, accommodations for rim brakes front and rear, moderate geometry--not a track bike but not a touring rig either, at least one set of water bottle bosses, possibility of putting on a front rack or basket, and a color that is not too ugly. Seems like the WT checks all the boxes. Components are not important because I already have most of what I need to build it how I like; I'm mainly after a good frame and fork.


So, what am I missing? What's good and what's bad about these frames? What do you love on yours, and what would you change?

I'd take a look at a Swobo Accomplice. They can be found for pretty cheap (sub $350), have a good frame and fork, decent components, two sets of bottle bosses, take rim brakes, moderate geo, and can accommodate up to 45mm tires. I've got one and the only real drawbacks I've found is that the stock cranks are not the best quality, and that they chainstays won't let you get away with a chainring larger than 44t.

I just ordered one yesterday. Sounds like it meets your criteria from everything I’ve read about the bike. I’ve heard it’s around 22 lbs.

That pretty much rules out the Swobo. My cranks are all bigger than 44t.

Do you still have the stock chain ring or what did you switch it out to? Thanks for your help.

I swapped out the stock chainring for a 44t All City ring I found on eBay.
