Does my 'Man Card' cover this?

I just bought a new compact digital camera to replace the one I generously loaned to a friend, but came back broken.

Do I need to read the manual for the new camera?

Doesn't my 'Man Card' give me some sort of exemption for this?

I mean, all these cameras are kinda the same, right? I must have thumbed through a manual for a digital camera at least once before, possibly even in the last 5 years.

You can read the manual or not, your choice.

As men, we get all the options. Man, it's great to be a man.

By coming on the interewbz to ask permission, you've already voided your Man Card. Read away... it will have no further bearing on your no longer in effect Card.

Don't read the manual. Suggest that anyone that doesn't understand how to use it, or what you are doing with it, should read RTFM themselves.

You may take the manual to the bathroom however in case of TP shortage.

Well he is in Foo... But then again he used the term Man Card on a searchable database. I would just hand down demerits at this point. Perhaps he can buy us all a round and we'll forget it, eh?

Does not matter if you read it or not, you are still gonna be told RTFM anytime you ask a question about it, so I say burn the manual.

It doesn't matter if you read the manual or not. Your wife's not giving back your Man Card.

I'm a touch OCD so I read the manual for EVERYTHING. I even read the manual for a new helmet I got. Sad, I know. My solution is to read the manual once, then burn it before using the product (or if you prefer less dramatic and more environmentally friendly, recycle it). I do this with everything from electronics to complex mechanical devices. The only way you lose your man card is if you actually refer to the manual during operation or assembly of the object in question.

^ See, that guy is clearly consulting the manual during assembly. Note the drill and mid-build confused expression.

You are not far wrong in this case.

There is a GPS function that is new to me, so I pick up the printed book and flick through to the English section. What a waste of paper! Only the most basic steps are here - nothing a child couldn't work out in 2 minutes playing with the camera. All the real information is on the CD in pdf format...so I'm pretty much going online to read the manual.
