Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Pipe Burst method is cool stuff though.

We had the same thing happen like 2 weeks after we moved in. Luckily we had a close friend that showed me how to cut the pipe out and install the new piece. It would have been costly if we didn’t know him.

Beyond that, though, and I can only speak of my own club, groups are often more than just a collection of people that ride together. Even within a fairly well-matched group, there's an ebb and flow and some people will be faster some years, slower others. When someone starts lagging, usually because they've been kept out of the saddle by life, we will, at the very least, regroup. Often, we'll dial it back after we've had a chance to burn some matches. Sometimes, we'll dial it back and shelter someone if they're really hurting.

That and there's also different expectations for different rides - the pace is pushed on Wed, whereas weekends are usually longer, easier rides, but with some taking it upon themselves to go for town signs, etc.
Back in the early 90s our group in the club did a century every Saturday and the leader was a friend who rode 25,000 miles per year. He wasn't the fastest climber I knew but his endurance was unreal and he tolerated a lot of sniveling from me. He was also a fantastic cook and he fed me after rides for years. He reached a point eventually where he didn't want to fight off every youngster who came along and he quit the club. I still see him once in a while, he's 10 years older than I am and has had a lot of physical problems.

I've been encouraging my son to sign up for one our local bands when he finishes school as a way to keep it going. He played in the Aggie wind symphony until last spring semester when his classes conflicted with rehearsal times. He still plays in the school pep band,, and has taken some really cool trips with the basketball teams, including the mens' NCAA Sweet 16 round his first year. For doing that he gets a lot of swag and a free all sports pass each year.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think theoretically (1) the brain/motor signals could somehow be enhanced, or (2) possibly the "pain" of exertion could be deadened?

Come on down. I can borrow a taser and you can tase yourself while riding to see what happens.

You'd have to sign a waiver, of course.

The question has been asked and money has been spent, but I haven’t seen anything dramatic from the sports world. We can, however, make you remember things better, among other parlor tricks.

We also used to be ”good” at causing seizures.

There’s heat dissipation too. Big problem with miniaturized coils.

I don't think you know the proper spot to tase.

Sounds like you need to do more work before the book is ready for prime time.

It's the body not the brain. Besides, it's probably cheaper to just get an e-bike.

I've heard it's difficult to get the couplers unless you're a frame builder, dunno if that's still the case.

Sorry, no big frames sitting around. This hotttttt complete is for sale locally, and I was wishing it was smaller...

Well that's not very sporting. I'm all for doing it the old fashioned way and shocking the hell out of VV.
