Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Recently acquired Trek 1000. Did they put the wrong tire size on it?

I recently got a used 2006(I think) trek 1000 road bike. While going over it seeing what was worn, I noticed it has Alex ah450 622x14 rims, which from what I read is 700c. But it has Continental grand prix 650x23 tires. Am I doing something wrong? Or did someone just muscle the wrong tires on it? I have pictures but not enough posts to upload them. Thanks!

Put the pics on a hosting site and the write the URL in the plain text of your post. Don't use the linking tools. You might have to remove the https:// and maybe change the "." to "dot'. If you use google pics or some site that has a share link, be sure to use the URL created by it.

I'm sure we'd all like to see that.

23-571 would be 650c tires, which have an even smaller bead seat diameter than 650b. I would imagine either the tire or rims are mislabled, as i cannot imagine a 650c could ever be properly mounted onto a 700c rim. Since the rim label is a simple sticker, that would be my guess as the most likely culprit for error. I would measure the rims to get the proper bead seat diameter.

During this era, trek had multiple road bike options in 650c tire size. The WSD 43cm frame size is what came in 650c.

My kids have a Trek Pilot 1.2 WSD with 650c wheels.
