Another Mickelson Trail Question
I see there is a tunnel between Deadwood and Rochford, pretty much near Rochford. Has anybody rode through that tunnel, if so, how long is it? I get kinda creeped out in tunnels and would hate to turn around there.

They are short they don't even suggest carrying lights for the tunnels, maybe that's why its hard to find info on their length.
I did find references to two The first tunnel is about 228 feet long and the second is 274 feet long

That's not bad at all. Its funny they don't reference the length on the map. Where did you find the information on them?

got the length of two of them from an article about parts of the trail opening
https://www.americantrails.org/resour...kotaOpens.html
I have ridden the entire length of the trail 3 times via the mid sept sd parks dept mickelson trail trek my memory is none of the tunnels are very long
while planning your trip note each section custer to edgemont, custer to rocheport and rocheport to deadwood has a different personality
if i had to pick just segment to do a round trip it would be mystic to rocheport it tends to follow a creek bed and will likely have some great
colors in the fall lunch in rocheport and downhill back to mystic second hill city to custer lunch in custer
crazy horse and lots of rock outcropping

With any luck, I'm going to do two rides. The first is Hill City to Custer and back. I'd like to see the Crazy Horse from the trail. Then the next will be Deadwood to Rochford and back. I want to do the second early in the morning, hopefully to see some wildlife along the trail.
Hope the smoke won't be too bad!

deadwood isnt very exciting dont go out of your way to start in deadwood sorry bout saying rocheport (katy trial) vs rochford i meant rochford
mho is you'd have a more scenic ride starting 10 miles south of deadwood (edgewood?) trail head and then continuing 10 miles beyond rochport

My favorite starting point is the Mystic Trailhead and then heading towards Deadwood. No matter which segment I ride, I always like to tackle the climbs first and then bomb the downgrade on the way back. By the way, there used to be a profile map on the Trail website that is always helpful so that you know what to expect on your ride.
