I walked into REI last week and the lady asked if she could help me find anything. I told her I was looking for something I wasn't sure how to pronounce. She said "Panniers are over here."

I've always pronounced Panniers as Pan-ears.
Screw it, going back to calling them bread bags!

The lady at REI said "PANyers". This is in Texas. I'm going with that pronunciation. Unexpectedly dropping accurate French pronunciation into Texas drawl can get you beat up.

Depends on the roots of the bicycle, your location and the company you keep. If you are capable of multiple languages you'll be able to adjust.
