My latest build (sort of): 1988 Trek 560 (pic heavy)
here's my latest build which i'm gratuitously showing off. it's really more like a spruce-up, not a true build. i've actually had this bike for a long time, and it's been 100% original until now. for the longest time i couldn't figure out what i wanted to do with it. i decided to just add functionality with fenders and a better saddle. while doing that, i prettied it up as well. i had to use P-clamps and fabricate a makeshift chainstay bridge for the fenders, but i'm really psyched that i was able to pull it off on this bike, what with extremely tight clearances and lack of braze-ons. i also tried out a neat trick on the bar tape, and i'm happy with the outcome. other than the saddle, bar tape, bell and fenders, the bike is original. like my other bikes, i hand-painted the lug shorelines to help those nice investment cast lugs to stand out.

Excellent job Southpawboston! Thanks for "gratuitously showing off".
(I especially like the white outlining treatment you did.)

thanks, all.
sort of-- it's a plastic seatpost mount for a planet bike blinky light. i cut of piece of inner tube as a shim. for the rotating piece that attaches to the light, i just filed it down to fit between the stays and then mounted the fender to it:

Beautiful! What size tires can you run under there. Would 28s fit? This is the first 560 I've seen with fenders. Way to make it happen!

I just rebuilt an identical 560 for my son's campus bike. Very nice. Shellac on yellow cork tape? Please post this on the Trek 660 thread for the record.

thanks, it's easy, especially on a bike with very smooth finished lugwork. just let the lug's edge guide the paint pen!
28mm tires should fit just fine, and i'm probably going to upgrade to 28s in the near future.
it's bontrager white cork tape with about 6-7 coats of amber shellac. but after so many coats, it had a glossy, smooth plasticky look which i really didn't like. so, i took some fine steel wool and scrubbed it to achieve a mattified finish:

thanks for the comments!
deco color paint pen, fine point.
35mm.
the brooks is a worn-in 1973 pro. yep, SKS chromoplastic fenders, UK-spec (hence the mudflap).

Question about the pedals, I have a 1988 Cannondale SR500, it has Shimmano Aero 105 pedals, they are a bit small for my size 12 feet, those pedals on your TREK, look more accommodating for larger feet, what are those pedals and cages??

Steel is real, baby!
VERY nice. Beautiful color... reminds me of one of my favorite F1 cars, the Leyton House cars of the early '90s:

What an outstanding bike.
You really have a knack for this I think.
What stem and bars are you using on this super nice Trek 560?
I am trying to decide which direction to go on a couple of points for my Bruce Gordon.

thanks. stem is SR custom, bars are SR road champion-- both stock for this bike.

Really nice work on that. What is the color you used?
I just finished repainting a Trek 770, and funny enough the color looks really close
to my 'Chromatically Challenged' eye.
Here's what I came up with for my repaint.

As I said 'Chromatically Challenged'. The green in the paint throws me.
