Great-looking bike, Bob Jackson offers a lot of reasonable-cost options for paint color, fittings & esp tubing. Those wide handlebars might give a nice little bit of shock absorption. Also the World Tour has the old-style narrow-end fork, I think those absorb bumps better than a lot of the mass-production steel touring forks.
When removing/mounting pedals or lubing rear derailleur wheels I still need to take bike off work stand. For apartments a display stand might help keep bike off walls & furniture, I think some can be used for adjusting derailleurs & brakes & truing wheels.

No worries, just have taken to weighing my frames when I get them stripped down to satisfy my curiosity! Still a sexy bike, hope to own a BJ of my own one of these days!

Back in the mid 60s I was a high school kid working for Mel Pinto Imports in Arlington VA. He was one of the the original importers of Gitane bicycles, Campagnolo components and Clement tubular tires. He also imported the very first Bob Jackson frames to the US. I got to drive the van out to Dulles airport to pick up the first arrivals. I know how you're feeling. Enjoy!
In the old days Bob Jackson even made racing/touring trikes.

All touring bikes should be BRG or some variation thereof. Sorry but it is just a fact that BRG is superior to all other colors for touring bikes ; )
Enjoy your BJ it should be a cracking ride. I have wanted either one of those or a Mercian for a while.

Mel is from Morocco. Along with his native French he speaks several other languages fluently. Some days he would get off the phone after long conversations in Italian. He had been chatting with Tullio Campagnolo over in Vicenza!

IMO production touring bikes should have higher default handlebar position. I needed to add ~10cm/4" of stem spacers on the Disc Trucker despite already preferring a more forward-leaning position.

just trimmed the tape with twine. will get shellac later.
this morning i rode with my gf to work down in the southend and climbed back uphill to home. this is a much more nimble and efficient setup than my all city spacehorse. they are both good in their way but the space horse is a truck compared to the bob. also with the very upright seating position i can climb in higher gears. i pull up on the bars as i push down on the pedals. i used to do this on my masi when i had similar bars on it and i didn't realize how much i missed that technique. all in all a lovely frameset.

How well does the tape take the shellac? How does it wind up when it is dried?
Looking really nice though!

sucks it right up. there is no way to do a bad job of it. it will eventually sort of crack but it looks cool as hell. 3-4 coats of amber shellac makes tan cinelli tape look like leather.

the tape is cork, not leather so my guide on preparing it was grant peterson in his book "just ride". he shows using shellac and twine on your tape. i generally do it on all my bikes now.

A local house had a couple of roadies that left their bikes locked up on the front porch. I was a bit shocked but locally thefts are low & one can set up alarms I guess. I've locked up bikes outside for years, only theft was from a DC workplace & luckily it was a bargain bike. BTW in Virginia if a thief steals a bike over $200 value they're liable to felony grand larceny charges. Maryland or DC has $1,000 limit.
